Louis V: Cops Grab 5th Alleged Walmart Shoplifter From Joliet in 10 Days

There was also one from Mokena and another they're not sure about.

The New Lenox police bagged a fifth Joliet resident for allegedly shoplifting from the East Lincoln Highway Walmart in less than two weeks.

The arrest of Christopher Balaban, 33, of 3250 Karen Court was the seventh overall reported by police since Oct. 30 in connection with filching from the Walmart. An eighth reported theft has yet to result in an arrest.

In addition to the four other Joliet residents charged with stealing from the superstore, there was a man and a woman from Mokena and a guy who got away before the police could arrest him or ask him where he lives.

Balaban was picked up shortly after 6 p.m. Friday. An officer sent to the store was told "that Balaban had removed approximately $900 worth of merchandise from the shelf and then walked out (of) the store without paying for the merchandise," police said.

Less than three hours later the police were called about another theft from the retail giant. But this time the crook slipped off before he could be taken into custody.

The escaped shoplifter only absconded with "approximately $20 worth of merchandise from the shelf," police said.

The department's investigations unit is reviewing the case.
