Sinkhole Opens Up, Woman Injured

The ground gave way and took Tina Sanchez with it, Sun-Times Media reports.

A Joliet Township woman was injured Monday when the ground she was standing on collapsed.

Tina Sanchez, a mobile home park resident at 1703 S. Chicago St. in Joliet Township, was assisted by firefighters from the East Joliet Fire Protection District after falling several feet through a sinkhole about 6 p.m. July 8. There was no warning that the pavement was about to collapse, reports the Sun-Times Media.

Sanchez held onto the bumper of a van parked in the spot, while her son called 911. “All I could see were feet when (firefighters) arrived,” she said.
