New Lenox Gas Stations Charge 12 cents more per gallon than Surrounding Towns

New Lenox gas stations are charging 12 cents more per gallon of regular than every other station in the Lincoln-Way communities. Of the seven New Lenox stations listed by Gas Buddy—four Speedway , one 7-11, one BP and one Shell station—the price for a gallon of regular gas is exactly the same. New Lenox residents are paying $4.21 per gallon.

That's 12 cents more per gallon than the eight stations in Mokena and seven stations in Frankfort. Each of those stations is charging $4.09 per gallon.

Just over a year ago, New Lenox residents were facing the same dilemma. Gas prices in New Lenox were between $4.14 and 4.19 per gallon, while it was a minimum of 5 cents cheaper in Frankfort.

In April last year, Mayor Tim Baldermann made headlines nationally when he directed residents at a Village Board meeting to boycott gas stations in town.  Not only was he applauded for suggesting that residents drive past commercial spots in town, his boycott worked.

and were on par with other towns. Despite a recent increase, the same was seen in towns such as Frankfort and Mokena. 

Today, we're at the same spot. New Lenox Patch Facebook fans are furious over what seems to be price gouging.  The question— Gas prices in New Lenox far exceed surrounding towns. Should we boycott?—was posted. Within six hours, it had been viewed 5,858 times, and just over 100 comments were posted.

• ·    "Buy gas out of crook county. I work in Indiana and live in oak forest, paid 3.85 for reg. unleaded."

•  ·"Yikes...it went up since this AM...hubby just told me it is 3.88 this afternoon."

• · "Yess!!! I was thinkin that the other day. Theirs no reason period why gas should be 4.21/g..... Tell me details if you do."

• · "What we need are Pickets with signs in front of the stations to deter drivers from purchasing gas here."

•  ·  "I went to Mokena...New Lenox stations don't value our business at all!"

•   "I'm all for a boycott - but we should boycott the companies, not just the town. If you go to another town and buy gas from the same company, they still get your money - maybe a little less of it - but they are still making money. Send a real message."

•     "Yes deb that's true, although some stations are privately owned, not company owned. New Lenox should lower its prices!"

•     "Absolutely! Vote with your wallet New Lenox!"
