ReplyDepending on how much space is public between the Metra Tracks and Rte 30, I would like to see a jogging path with landscaping and deciduous trees to hide the tracks. The beautification could be supported by local groups each taking responsibility for a section of the path like Boy Scout Troops, Lions Club...... The Ace Hardware shopping mall is definitely an eyesore and sorely needs updating. I personally frequent many of those businesses, but it could definitely use a facelift. A used car lot isn't necessarily an aberration, but I think raising the standards in zoning laws for appearances need to be held to a higher standard then they are now on Rte 30 since it is the corridor to the first impression of New Lenox.

ReplyThe additional sidewalk in front of Fullers near the high school will increase safety for high school students and I welcome the addition of Fuller Car Wash in New Lenox. The architecture of the new Provena building has added a lot of character to the Rte 30 corridor and is quite impressive. A sign might diminish the overall appeal of the building and the corridor because if they get one, everyone will want one and that would greatly diminish the ever improving landscape of the corridor.
Now is we could just get the strip mall where I often frequent the Ace Hardware and Paisano's from its current truly embarassing facade, the entire area would be greatly improved.

First priority should be replacing the GHETTO TRAIN STAION OF THE ROCK. We have the ugliest, dumpiest and most embarrasing train station on the entire Rock Island line. They raised our parking rates because of 'increased costs' and they haven't even blacktopped it in years, not to mention how about 1/3 of it floods when it rains hard. Why should they improve it? They only make of $1,000 a day from it. What a joke. Since the Walmart and Goodwill have left a permanent and indelible impression of poverty and tackiness, you would never know New Lenox residents contain a large anount of college educational professionals and highly paid skilled union workers. It more resembles a corridor for recipients of public aid.
