ReplyI'll go out of my way just to NOT spend money on gas in New Lenox. Yep, it maybe be more for me to drive further BUT I don't want these crooks here in town to have the upper hand. Hey Mayor Baldermann you need to get after these guys again. I'll follow Gas Buddy or drive down to Kankakee and get it for $3.65 and be SO happy..may even move there if things like this keep up....

I agree. Rt 30 is just so congested in the area from Jewels down to the train station. Getting in and out of businesses there can be very tricky, at best. I don't think there is much you can do about the businesses already there, not the empty buildings. If RT30 is such a prime location why aren't those buildings being occupied? And the House of Hughes has been another "eyesore". Properties like these don't do anything to improve our image. I like the small "downtown" feel that's already there. My shopping now in town is regrettably mostly limited to (ugh) WalMart and points east of it (Lowes, Target and on into Frankfort). There is nothing to attract me to RT30, not even grocery shopping at Jewel since WalMarts Super store opened and further east wonderful Mariano's. Concentrate your energies on 355, is my motto. Leave it pretty much the way it is. I lived in Park Forest for 50 years, since I was a child, before moving here and saw what you got from "beating a dead horse"...wasted money and nothing for it or your efforts.

Yes, get that Nelson road extension going PLEASE! We've lived here 10 years and are still waiting for it, while we zig zag through all the residential neighborhoods to get "downtown". I often feel like we belong to Manhattan rather then New Lenox, we are so "disconnected" from the main part of town...

ReplyLets get some businesses that attract people to our town. I like K-Mart but it has seen its day and can't compete with Walmart. Walmart is a "two sided sword"....trashy reputation but cheap and convenient. This one here never keeps their shelves stocked.
We would like to see Menards come in, and while your at it how about a Sams club or a Costco?? Rt 30 is pretty much a dead end, but that shopping mall near 355, that never even got started, may be the answer for our town. -

ReplyLiving on the far south side of town near Delaney and Nelson I have always felt "detached", that I live in "another town" (New Lenox South), by the simple fact that there is no really easy way to get to downtown New Lenox. Zig, zag, Zig, zag....I am tired of it and not putting my faith in a extension anytime in the near future (and we have lived here 10 years already out here in "nowhere land"). Another thought: Whats with the trains that cross Nelson? Aren't they NOT suppose to be blowing their horns at the crossing now?? The other night I heard four seperate trains sound their horns before crossing...go figure?
