On the article LA Cafe Plans to Reopen Have Gone Up in Smoke: Mattina Café Takes Over

ReplyWe DO have several *great* options in New Lenox -- too bad that IMHO, Mattina Cafe isn't one of them. Ate there once and that was all it took: bad food, terrible service and no apologies by owner/manager for either when I complained in person. La Cafe, on the other hand? THEY *should* be back!

On the article Judge Rules D122 Member Kathy Miller Back on April Ballot (UPDATE)

ReplyLots of comments here (and on other stories) -- but how many CANDIDATES? Seats up for grabs...by whom? I'm not commenting on the current issue because a.) I've honestly (who can honestly say "honestly" these days?) not followed the issue close enough and b.) I'm not willing to pick up a petition for candidacy and go around to get the signatures and then actually get elected and serve on the board. It takes a lot of time, effort and other resources for relatively little compensation; these people (largely) are doing it to serve the community the best that they can. Anyone else making all the complaints willing to do the same?
Again, not saying that any board member here is right or wrong on this issue -- but THEY ARE THE ONES ACTIVELY SERVING AS VOTED IN BY YOU! Don't like what they do, don't vote for them; run for the seat yourself. Just sayin`....

ReplyMY license has been scanned for some time at a New Lenox GRADE school....does this mean that my background has been "checked"??? While I have undergone this numerous times for various professional and personal activities, I have always KNOWN that it is happening (I presume). So are the grade schools already using this Raptor system? If not, seems like more "TSA theatre" as noted above. If so, shouldn't I have been told??? Also have to agree that there's as many holes in this system as Swiss cheese, i.e. after school activities, park district re-use, etc.

ReplyLike the "Pay It Forward" column idea! Not only would it remind us what a great community we live in...but also remind us that WE are the ones that make it great - by thinking of others!

On the article New Lenox Library Adds New Snack Option

ReplyAt the risk of offending some, maybe those that are of a certain intellect to use the library are too smart to pay the premium for a product whose difference many people can't discern, anyhow? In other words, I *do* use the library, but a $4 coffee doesn't taste three times as good as the one I can get for $1.25 elsewhere and I'm too smart to not do that math.
No offense to the previous operators intended here, of course. I know at least one was smart and had a good product, just not the right location -- and she has since figured that one out.... There IS a place to sell many a $4 coffee, the only real "town square" in New Lenox (and the library especially) just isn't it.

On the article Surprise Proposal! L-W Grads Get Engaged on Stage at Central (VIDEO)

ReplyWay to go Erik! Megan is very lucky to have such a thoughtful guy.... I, too, made a "public proposal" -- though it was over the loudspeaker on an airplane (pre-9/11). Mr. Rancatore certainly went the extra step(s) in proposing to the future Mrs. Rancatore in that not only did he choose a special place but he also went through all the effort of bringing together all the people special to them. Well done, indeed!

[s]hawn: This appears to have happened going the other direction: getting off of 80 going onto 30...though it doesn't specify and more likely happened where the 3rd lane ends. THAT is the place where true idiots live: *after* no fewer than three signs specifically spell out that the lane is ENDING and yet they're there still playing chicken. I have been known to drive assertively but NOT aggressively; it may save a few minutes -- but it could cost you a lifetime!
BTW, getting ON? Realize that you are getting onto an i-n-t-e-r-s-t-a-t-e...that means you're no longer puttering around New Lenox, rolling through stop signs: ya` gotta keep up now!
