Economic strife stirs creativity and ingenuity.
In Illinois the unemployment rate remains persistently high. Figures for July 2012 revealed an 8.9 percent rate, which is 0.6 percent higher than the national average, according to the Illinois Unemployment Department of Numbers. Despite slow growth of traditional jobs, people are overcoming these obstacles through creative and intuitive endeavors. Take, for instance, New Lenox's Patrick Kukosh, a 42-year-old union painter who has been out of a laborer's job for two years. His wife, Kristy, is a pediatrics nurse at the University of Chicago Hospital; the couple has a home and three children to raise. The house is neither big nor new. Among many programs related to the community-wide ShareFest 2012 event is the Job Fair. As part of the 11 days of giving, which officially kicked-off Sept. 1 with a clothing and food drive along with a food collection campaign, the Job Fair is intended to assist people in finding employment. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Village Hall, 20-plus employers have signed on to interview candidates. The annual ShareFest volunteering event has grown significantly over the years, and this year will again feature "11 Days of Giving." ShareFest is an annual event that brings together hundreds of volunteers to work on service projects throughout New Lenox and help others in need through various collections. This year, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever, in part because it's calling for donations outside of just one weekend and creating "11 Days of Giving." Music, dance and presentations motivate volunteers and brings families together in the annual volunteerism event in New Lenox.
Mayor Tim Baldermann Monday issued a proclamation celebrating the 11 Days of Giving implemented through ShareFest 2012 at the Village Board meeting. With plans for the sixth annual ShareFest underway, chairperson Gary Cheney is looking forward to the "fair atmosphere" that has surrounded the 11 Days of Giving, he said later. That is quite correct, they only count the number of people on unemployment as those being unemployed, so the number is much higher. Its a joke that when a bunch of people get dropped from unemployment, the elected morons try to claim that they created jobs... What jobs do the elected officials actually create??? Government jobs??
