Would You Still Cheer for the Bears if Their Best Player Was Gay?

A current gay NFL player could come out in a few months and continue to play in the league, according to an online columnist. His biggest concern? Harm from homophobic fans. How would you react if he played for your favorite team?

In the same week the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case of California's Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage case, a CBS Sports online columnist says a current gay NFL player could come out publicly within the next few months. This player would become the first athlete in one of America's major team sports to be openly gay and continue to play. READ: Check Out the Full CBSSports.com Column for More Details But the obstacle keeping this unidentified player from revealing his sexual orientation isn't the fear of how teammates or even opposing players will react, writes CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, citing former and current NFL players as sources for this information. It's a worry of what fans might do, Freeman reports…

Cardinal George Says Same-Sex Marriage Is 'Against The Common Good', Do You Agree?

Cardinal Francis George releases a strongly worded letter as the State Legislature moves closer to a vote on gay marriage.

As gay marriage moves closer to a vote in the Illinois General Assembly, Cardinal Francis George has released a letter attacking the notion of same-sex marriage itself and urging Catholics to voice their objections.  UPDATED: Illinois State Senate members went home on Thursday without voting the bill up or down in the final days of the veto session, although a senate committee did vote in favor of the bill to allow same-sex marraige. Supporters are hoping the bill will be passed after new lawmakers are sworn in on Jan. 9, however, it may be weeks before the bill goes before the state senate for a full vote. The marriage equality bill's failure to go before the senate for a full vote on Thursday was credited to pushback from the Catholic …

Allow? Here's the thing, it's not up to you to ALLOW consenting adults to have sex in whatever manner of their choosing. Animals can't consent and you're comparing gay sex to murder? Wow! I'm just happy that people with this mentality are in the minority now. I guess society is becoming more enlightened, even if some people don't keep up with evolution.   more ›

POLL: Do You Support Gay Marriage?

In light of President Barack Obama's recent announcement supporting gay marriage and a story that has generated a lot of chatter, we want to hear what you think. Take a moment to vote in our poll.

It's no secret that President Barack Obama has proclaimed his support for same-sex marriage. It was a move—one made during an interview with ABC News that aired in part on Wednesday—that conjured a mixed reaction from those in the Southland. READ: Taking Heart and Umbrage at Obama's Stance on Same-Sex Marriage Chicago Heights resident Zhenya Krassitchkova said the proclamation was like a "breath of fresh air for the gay community." The 29-year-old entered into a civil union with her longtime girlfriend, Marina Bassett, almost one year ago when Illinois became the sixth state in the United States to issue licenses joining any two non-married adults.  U.S. Rep. Taking Heart and Umbrage at Obama's Stance on Same-Sex Marriage

Southland residents reacted Thursday—some positively, some negatively—to President Obama's public support for gay marriage. What do you think?

President Barack Obama's public backing of gay marriage met a mixed reaction Thursday in the south suburbs. Obama said during a recent ABC news interview that he personally supports same-sex marriage, noting that he "already made a decision that we were going to take this position before the election and before the convention." In doing so, he became the first sitting president to publicly support the union.  "I've just concluded that, for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married," Obama told ABC's Good Morning America. Chicago Heights resident Zhenya Krassitchkova said the proclamation was like a "breath of fresh air for the gay community." "It's obviously …

Why do you have to be so negative? Do you not want people to be happy? It's really no big deal. Just live and let live. Life is too short.   more ›

A New Lenox Couple Gets (Somewhat) Equal Protection

Civil unions went into effect today in Illinois, and a New Lenox couple was featured in the Joliet Herald-News.

Today, Illinois took a step toward providing equal protection for same-sex couples. Civil unions became the law, and county clerk offices began issuing licenses to legal recognize couples with the same rights and protections that married couples enjoy. We talked with religious leaders in Joliet and Romeoville, as well as a lesbian couple from Romeoville, about what it means for gay rights (though it's important to note that heterosexual couples may also enter into civil unions). The Joliet Herald News tracked down another couple in New Lenox and featured them in an article yesterday. Mary Bernas and Hiliana Leon, of New Lenox, plan to exchange vows at a June 25 commitment ceremony at the John Hancock Observatory. “This is one step closer …
