The Lincoln-Way communities are gearing up for more lane closures on Route 30
While flowers will be breaking ground and reaching toward the sun, construction crews will be breaking pavement and digging a path for new lanes on Route 30 in New Lenox, Mokena and Frankfort. Flashing signs have been alerting motorists about pending lane closures, said New Lenox Village Engineer Will Nash. There are currently two lanes of traffic in each direction along Route 30. There will be daily lane closures throughout the project. All lanes will be open again at the end of the day. Nash said he and the staff have been monitoring the areas throughout the winter, but spring time marks the typical construction season. Anderson Road is now open, but Spencer Road will be closing soon.
Motorists are asked to be aware that the Route 30 construction project is continuing at a rapid pace. Village Engineer Will Nash highlighed the major projects at the moment: • Anderson Road is now open. • Spencer Road is scheduled to close on Monday to build the mainline pavement gap and the connection with Spencer Road. Spencer Road should be open in two weeks. • New concrete has been placed from the west end of the project to east of Bluestone Bay Drive. Motorists are asked to be aware that the contractor will be leaving gaps at the private driveways and side streets as required to allow access. This completes the mainline concrete pours through New Lenox. The contractor is expectected to fill in the gaps in the next couple weeks. …

New Lenox Village Engineer Will Nash provided the latest information on the ongoing Route 30 construction project, including updates on traffic patterns and road closures. All the work mentioned above is dependent on weather and the possibility of unforeseen utility issues. Nash said, "My staff and I have been in contact and will continue to reach out to the business owners and affected parties in the construction areas to update them as we get new information from the contractor. Moving forward, the contractor plans to have the eastbound two lanes of new pavement constructed by Thanksgiving and as weather permits continue to construct the middle lanes and the left turn lanes along with the curb and gutter. Eric is right, Paschen has been doing a nice job. A concern I see though is some older businesses have huge entrance curb cuts and others are smaller than my residential driveway! Possible future accidents waiting to happen on Rt. 30, if they don't fix some of them. Also, don't forget to get off those cell phones while driving in construction zones.
