Route 30 Construction Updates

Village Engineer Will Nash describes the current state of Route 30 construction.

VAs the Route 30 Construction Project  continues to impact the lives of motorists , Village engineer Will Nash provides the latest news on traffic conditions through town. As of Nov. 15, he said: For the next couple weeks, gaps will be filled in by the contractor, said Nash. As a result, more cars will be able to stack at the light and move through the intersection. They plan to be completed with the concrete pavement at Retail Drive Friday.  Early the week of Thanksgiving they will strip the intersection to allow the full intersection to be used. Nelson Road Extension, Gougar Turn Lane and More Summer Road Construction

It's slow. It's a pain. It's construction.

Road construction projects throughout New Lenox have spread like an air-borne virus. The projects currently underway are: the Route 30 widening project from Williams Street through Harlem Avenue in Frankfort, Cedar Road between First Avenue and Fourth Avenue, and the intersection of Gougar Road and Route 30. It's a village campaign that relies on motor fuel tax dollars to fuel sidewalk improvements, curb updates and ultimately asphalt overlays on the side streets, said Will Nash, …

Wasn't the Route 30 Project funded through the 2009 Economic Recovery Act/Stimulus Bill? I saw one of the orange signs and then ot was quickly taken down. That very nice Joliet Fire Station on Laraway next to Chicagoland Speedway was funded by the Stimulus bill. Same situation,, that is a sign announced that and was quickly removed.   more ›

Stop Sign Nixed for Pine Street and Second Avenue

A proposed stop sign was halted because it could cause traffic backups.

The New Lenox Village Board on Monday opted to drop plans to put a stop sign at the intersection of Pine Street and Second Ave. The board had considered the idea, but the streets are too narrow. At the same time, Trustee Annette Bowden pointed out that a stop sign would have a negative impact on the homeowners in that area. She was concerned that they wouldn't be able to get out their driveways during the peak hours when crowds move into to attend mass at St. Jude Catholic Church on Saturday night and Sunday. Village Engineer Will Nash and Police Chief Bob Sterba agreed that a stop sign wasn't warranted. "It could create more of an issued than we had before," added Nash. Old annexation agreement enacted Robin Ellis, the director of …
