Lincoln-Way School Board Approves 2012-13 Budget

Lincoln-Way Area "MobilePack" lauds board for support of Haiti project.

Lincoln-Way District 210 board members approved the 2012-2013 budget amounting to $97,145,292, a decrease of $80,701 from the previous year. Superintendent Lawrence Wyllie said in a Sept. 13 meeting that the tax rate for the 2011 is less than it was 22 years ago. In 2011, the tax rate was 1.8306 compared to the 1989 rate of 1.9283.  In a previous article, Supt. Lawrence Wyllie explained that 2011-12 revenues did not match expenditures. The district's reserves had to be used to cover the $3.27 million shortfall. In addition, a drop in the the equalized assessed valuation reflects the decreased tax rate. This year's EAV dropped $169,815,256 from $3,991,068,924 last year to $3,821,253,668 this year, according to Stacy Holland, director of …

Check out photos from the job and health fairs, entertainment and service projects around the community.

ShareFest's "11 Days of Giving" began Sept. 1, but today marks the main event—a festival of sorts that features free health care, a hazardous waste collection, lots of entertainment and a whole lot of giving.  The annual New Lenox event unites the community to help those in need and foster a spirit of giving what you can.  Today, Patch will be at the main location—the Spencer School Campus—updating this live blog with photos and calls for help. You can add your photos from the day and comment with any updates.  11:45 a.m. — SWAT DEMONSTRATION NEARS There are a bunch of great presentations and demonstrations going on at ShareFest today, and one of the coolest is the SWAT demonstration by the South Suburban Emergency Response Team. A New Way to Pay It Forward Through ShareFest

The ShareFest 2012 Committee is handing out tokens sporting the "Pay It Forward" philosophy.

Gary Cheney, committee member and co-organizer of the sixth annual ShareFest 2012, gets a gleam in his blue eyes when he talks about the newest dimension to the 11 days of giving, which started Sept. 1. Manning the semi-trailer parked in the lot at St. Jude Catholic Church for collections dropped off to benefit a family or a face unknown, Cheney said "we have tokens" for people who volunteer or donate in one way or another during the event that for New Lenox residents is known as 11 days of giving. The tokens read: "Congratulations! You've received a 'Youmanity' token and have been selected to start a chain of kindness." Find out more about how you can help or receive help through ShareFest.  Unlike the chain letters that fill the Email …

The first thing that came to mind was a co-worker named Audrie that was nice enough to bake two delicious cakes for our staff to enjoy. She brought them in this morning and …   more ›
