New Lenox Residents Want Business Development on the South Side of Town

What about development on the south side of town?

The village's study on the vision of the Route 30 Corridor got many residents suggesting a more pedestrian-friendly commercial area. Obviously Route 30 is a main drag, which could be problematic for the development of a substantial pedestrian-friendly commercial district. Patch posed the question on Facebook about development on the south side of town. The Village Station project along Laraway and Cedar Roads was first proposed in 2005. It was planned as a 236-acre combination commercial and residential project. I live on the south end of town and I personally would love having more stores on the south side of the tracks. I really feel sorry for our high schoolers at West as they are the only high school in the district that has no food options within walking distance of their school.   more ›

Looking for a Job? Try Boot Camp for Job Seekers

Job Fair Boot Camp is an all-out effort to assist job seekers in New Lenox.

A joint effort by the Village of New Lenox, the Library and the Chamber of Commerce is taking aim at joblessness. As a result, they've created an intensive program called "Boot Camp for Job Seekers." The heart of the program is the availability of one-on-one resume and cover letter reviews. The program, scheduled to take place from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 at the New Lenox Public Library, is an all-out effort to get people back to work, said Nancy Hoehn, village economic development director. Pros from the human resources (HR) field and related experts are working together to help employment seekers overcome the hurdles of landing a job.
