Hundreds of residents turned out in shirt sleeves and light wight jackets for a balmy Christmas celebration with Santa, carolers and more.
The Village of New Lenox held its annual "Christmas in the Commons" Sunday, celebrating with Santa, carriage rides, tree decorating and more. Christmas carols filled the commons and music was performed by numerous school choral groups, including Medieval-dressed Madrigal Singers from Lincoln-Way West High School along with youngsters from Martino and Liberty Junior High Schools. Meanwhile, parents and children decked out a field of evergreen trees and many enjoyed a horse-drawn, snow-less sleigh ride. Check our Holiday Guide for more Christmas Activities. Santa was kept quite busy listening to starry-eyed children rattle off a list of toys they'd like to find under the Christmas tree, and a host of venders sold everything from hand-…

A crowd of about 500 came to the New Lenox event, which featured a movie, drinks and vendors.
The first annual Ladies Night Out at the Commons drew a crowd of about 500 women on Aug. 22. In the two hours before the movie, I Don't Know How She Does It, mothers, daughters, grandmothers and friends came out in droves to chat, eat and sip wine, laugh and even dance a bit to the all-girl theme music that spilled out of the on-stage speakers. Even Mother Nature seemed to get in the spirit of the combination craft fair-party atmosphere by providing a perfect 73 degrees. About 30 vendors set up tables beneath the stage and around the perimeter of the Common selling everything from home-made jewelry to martini mix and from specialty foods to stemware. Village trustee Annette Bowden and economic development director Nancy Hoehn thanked …

Leave the kiddies behind and take time for yourself at Ladies Night Out Aug. 22 in New Lenox.
The first annual Ladies Night Out at the Village Commons in New Lenox features wine-tasting, artisans, mini-manicures and a movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker portraying a role in which she attempts to balance work, parenting and marriage. The brainchild of Annette Bowden, village trustee and chairperson for the Performing Arts Committee, the Ladies Night Out event is planned with a sense of humor and fun. It's the last of the season's Movie Nights at the Village Commons. The film is I Don't Know How She Doest It. In a NLCTV interview, she discussed how the event is intended, of course, to promote women in business. But it's also a Home Depot-sponsored celebration of the cultural and social aspects of the lives that real women live. Nancy…

The second leg of the 2012 Triple Play Concert Series brought a sold out audience to New Lenox on a gorgeous summer evening. If you took photos of your own, share them on Patch!
When residents headed toward the Village Commons for the Heart concert on Friday, July 20, they were greeted with mid-70 degree weather for the first time in a while. It was hard not to find a person enjoying themselves at the second part of the 2012 Triple Play Concert Series. First, Hit Parade took the stage by playing many covers of hard rock songs from the 1970's and 80's. Next, Naperville native and ex-American Idol contestant Gina Glocksen took the stage around 7:15 p.m. Glocksen paused a few times during her act to say how 'cool' it was to be performing at the Village Commons. "Dreams do come true," she said of the opportunity to open for Heart. Heart appeared a few minutes earlier than its 9 p.m. scheduled start. The hard rock …
