Touched by An Angel: Save Energy & Save a Kid, Too

Bill Steinhauser's annual Toys for Tots drive and semi-annual push for the CHARGE Foundation have come to be recognized as two ways of doing business at his family's local hardware store.

Helping customers find ways to save on energy costs is a priority for Bill Steinhauser at this time of the year. So is helping those in need. Steinhauser, co-owner of Park ACE Hardware, 16725 Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, collects toys as part of the Toys for Tots program. “We’re just trying to help kids in need in the Southwest Chicago area, collecting toys—unopened, unwrapped toys,” he said. “Bring them here. We’ve got a drop-off box right in the front of the store. And help a kid out this Christmas.” Toys will be picked up by Toys for Tots officials on Dec. 20 and distributed on time for the holidays. Ways to Volunteer in New Lenox This Holiday Season

Are you in the giving spirit this holiday season? Find ways to give back to your community this year in New Lenox.

As need has grown among many families in the last few years, so to has the response to give, at least around New Lenox. Many people involved with charitable ventures, from the New Lenox Township food pantry or the Daybreak Center in Joliet, have said that willingness to donate and volunteer has been fantastic, especially around the holidays. So if you've caught the spirit of giving, here are some local ways you can help out the less fortunate around the holidays: A collection box is at the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce for food items that will be donated to needy families through Together We Cope, a resale shop in Tinley Park.
