New Lenox's Tommy Schuman, who died at the age of 18 from an undetected cardiac condition nearly a year ago, will not be forgotten. A Special Games Leadership Award will mark his legacy.
The 12th Annual Special Games at Lincoln-Way Central High School this year has a new feature—the Tommy Schuman Leadership Award. Schuman, a baseball player and golfer at LWC, was voted athlete of the year shortly after the tragedy of his unexpected death on March 31, 2012. On March 1 at the Special Games, the Tommy Schuman Leadership Award will be presented to a deserving senior student leader from each of the participating schools. The award recognizes student leaders for their outstanding efforts and work in and out of the classroom.
