D122 Board Chastises Members Broderick, Smith at Packed Meeting

NLSD122 board members attacked the legitimacy of a Jan. 11 hearing that resulted in removing incumbent Kathy Miller from the April ballot.

Since New Lenox School District 122 Board incumbent, Kathleen Miller, was kicked off the April ballot by a 2-1 vote of the Electoral Board that found her petition faulty due to a notary error, tempers have flared. Seated Wednesday night before a packed room at the Haven Administration Center, Board President Nick DiSandro chastised the actions of Secretary Maureen Broderick for actions he deemed unprofessional. At a press conference Tuesday, he referred to her actions as "dirty" politics on a non-partisan board in an effort to remove Miller from the ballot. At the press conference, he revealed that he had asked the Will County State's Attorney's Office to look into the matter and notified the Illinois State Board of Education as well as …

I'm sorry Grace, I should have stated that Cheryl only said "It is frequently difficult for little minds to separate reality from fantasy" and compared this to her children. So only people with little minds use IF, that does sound better. And the FACTS are that the secretary did her JOB regardless of politics.   more ›

Anonymous Tip Led to D122 Petition Objection (UPDATE)

Board members Maureen Broderick and Sue Smith were the only ones who went to the New Lenox School District Office to view petitions.

An anonymous tip led to New Lenox School District 122 board member Kathy Miller's removal from the ballot in the April election. What's interesting is the fact that the person who filed the objection, Nikki Sanders of New Lenox, never actually went into the District Office to view the petition. Sanders said that on Jan. 2, while she was away from home, someone had put a copy of page four of the document in her mailbox. That's all it was, she said. The single page was not in an envelope. It was stuck in the mailbox. The first thing she did was to contact individuals on th school board to discuss the document with her. Sanders said she speciffically placed calls to board members Maureen Broderick and Sue Smith. They said they could not …

Heading into the April Election: Allegations of Wrong Doing Run High on NLSD122 Board (UPDATE)

Kathy Miller, D122 board member, lost her place on the April ballot.

Since the ouster of New Lenox School District 122 member Kathy Miller from the ballot on Jan. 11, allegations of personal and political attacks among board members have bubbled to the top. There's a steamy history between board members that dates back almost four years. The latest point of contention was the 2-1 vote to invalidate Miller's nominating petition, the three members of the Electoral Board of New Lenox School District 122 declared Miller's potion to be invalid due to a notary error. Broderick, who has been a notary public for 20 years, insisted that her vote was not personally or politically motivated. With a copy of the Illinois Board of Education guidelines and notary association paperwork that specifies the rules for …

From Newest Member to Board President, DiSandro Replaces Markus

Nick DiSandro was elected as District 122 president on Tuesday, replacing Kathy Markus, who gave a tearful goodbye.

Less than one month ago, Nick DiSandro was in a tight three-way battle for two seats on the District 122 school board. As of Tuesday night, he was elected to lead the board as president. DiSandro, the newest member of the board, replaces outgoing President Kathy Markus, who did not run for re-election. Board members Maureen Broderick and Sue Gillooley were elected to another term and were also sworn in Tuesday. "It's a surprise," DiSandro said after the board meeting. "I think the entire board looked at the best option to start fresh." The circumstances under which DiSandro became president were quite surprising. Broderick first nominated Gillooley for president, but she declined the nomination. After member Deb Kedzior nominated Kathy …

I'll admit I was rather taken aback by the tone of the response I received from then Board Pres. Kathy Markus. All I wanted to understand, as do many in the community I have spoken with, is how we found money for admin raises when just a few short months ago we had a huge deficit with minimal funds for busing, we were eliminating aids, teachers were being let go, etc. Surely the Pres. and board …   more ›
