There's not going to be a special prosecutor or a special hearing in the Hickory Street double murder case. At least not yet.
It was another week abbreviated by a court holiday. But even with just four days instead of five, there was plenty going on at the area's courthouses. In Joliet, we had one of the defense lawyers in the Nightmare on Hickory Street double murder case asking for a special hearing to find out how Patch obtained police reports no other news outlet seems able get their hands on. The Will County judge presiding over the case didn't go along with it, at least not for the moment. The judge did say he may revisit the issue of a special evidentiary hearing in the future. The daughter of Will County Board member Herbert Brooks pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft after a special prosecutor reduced the charge from a felony.
Will County Board member Herbert Brooks' daughter pleaded guilty to stealing from the Target store where she worked as a cashier. As part of the deal, Special Prosecutor Dave Neal dropped the felony charge filed against 23-year-old Megan Brooks of Joliet and replaced it with a misdemeanor. If Megan Brooks pays back the full $1,291 she stole from the 2701 Plainfield Road Target, Neal said he will recommend she get off with a sentence of court supervision and 200 hours of community service. If she fails to come up with the money by her sentencing on March 5, Brooks faces up to a year in the Will County jail. Neal said Megan Brooks was prepared to pay as much as $600 Monday but that he does not want her on an installment plan. Neal said he …

A special prosecutor brought in to try Will County Board member Steve Wilhelmi's son for battery dropped the case but is still going after two pals of the young man. The fathers of these two men are not on the county board.
When Will County Board member Steve Wilhelmi's son was first arrested for allegedly whipping a man with his belt, he only faced charges of misdemeanor battery and mob action. Then the mob action charge went away, and now he's charged with nothing. A special prosecutor called in to try Wilhelmi's 21-year-old son, Alex Wilhelmi of 1108 Taylor St., Joliet, dropped the case Thursday morning. But David Neal of the Special Prosecution Unit of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's office is still going after the two men arrested along with Alex Wilhelmi on July 1.
