Floyd's Alehouse is Open for Business

It's a "soft opening" for New Lenox's newest restaurant, said Millie Garcia, part-owner of Floyd's Alehouse.

New Lenox's newest fine-dining establishment, Floyd's Alehouse Restaurant, is officially open. "It's a soft opening," according to Millie Garcia, part-owner. The date for the formal grand opening has not yet been determined. The restaurant at 901 E. Lincoln Highway has a fresh feel about it. Floyd's Alehouse is more than simply a replacement for foreclosed Charley Horse Restaurant and Pub; it brings another element to the village. With a menu that features small plates and entrées such as oxtail arancini, caramelized pork, lobster ravioli, barbeque bourbon ribs, as well as a variety of hamburgers and sandwiches on the menu, this is the definition of a fine-dining establishment with American cuisine. There is a kids menu too. The average …

Mother's Love of Family Inspires Photography Business

Juliette's Hearth Photography specializes in capturing the emotion.

Laura Jurgens, a wife and mother of five children, launched her New Lenox business, Juliette's Hearth Photography, in January. This self-taught photographer said her family's interest in photos stirred her passion for capturing the moment. "My interest in photography I learned from my dad and grandfather." She recalls the thrill of seeing the photos that her dad, a career military man, took on his tours of duty. Her grandfather had a ready collection of old cameras too. Growing up, she said, "I think I spent more time in the darkroom than I did in the classroom." Together with a group of shutter-bug friends, Jurgens recalls fondly a trip they took to Seattle just for the fun of shooting the Pacific Northwest.   While some favor …

Designated Drivers Get Free Food at On Pub

The designated driver program at Tom Kelly's Chophouse and Pub aims to keep patrons safe.

One restaurant owner has come up with a plan to keep party-goers safe. At Tom Kelly's Chop House & Pub, 495 Degroate Road, the designated driver gets free non-alcoholic drinks and a no-cost appetizer of his or her choice. "We've been doing it on the weekends," and it's bound to be popular over the upcoming three-day St. Patrick's Day celebration, said Brett Trumpey, part-owner of Tom Kelly's.    Sitting with a group of friends who are drinking while you can't tends to put a damper on the night. So Trumpey came up with a plan to help those who have accepted the role of designated driver. "W e want them to have fun too." A little free food and free non-alcoholic drinks is sometimes just enough to keep a designated driver happy. It keeps the …
