LA Café Restoration Work is Underway

The grand re-opening of LA Café Restaurant won't happen in time for Christmas.

Fire may have destroyed LA Cafe, one of New Lenox's most beloved restaurants in January, but the business is eventually slated for a resurrection.  The Jan. 28 blaze started accidentally in the kitchen in the early morning hours on a Saturday. No one was hurt, but the business was forced to close. Marc Angel, owner of the popular Mexican restaurant, LA Café, had hoped to re-open next month, but plans have been pushed back to spring 2013. Still, he's excited about the restoration work that got underway last week by Phoenix Restoration Co., 195 Industry Ave., Frankfort. JH Sweis Catering Adds Zesty Menu for Banquets at the American Legion

JH Sweis Catering brings 25 years of experience to the American Legion, while also catering corporate events, weddings and more.

Jan—she's the "J"—and Hayle—he's the "H"—are the main ingredients in JH Sweis Catering. Together the two have taken their 25 years of experience in the food industry and moved it into the newly remodeled Tom E. Hartung American Legion Post 1977, 14414 Ford Drive. They're the new in-house caterer for banquets held at the American Legion. They took an empty space and created a kitchen where dishes like Thai Green Curry Spoons (a grilled chicken dish served with bamboo shoots laced with coconut green curry sauce), custom pasta dinners and mini Caesar salad bites are prepared right along with a rib eye steak sandwich, a juicy hamburger and exquisite sweet trays. In other words, whether you're in the mood for an elegant entrée or a hearty meal…

How Early is Too Early for Christmas Shopping?

It used to be Black Friday was for the earliest of early shoppers. Not anymore. Look around. The stores are ready now.

Look around the Chicago area and you'll see all the signs: The early birds no longer wait until Black Friday to do their Christmas shopping. This year, Black Friday is on Nov. 23, but big retailers and mail-order companies are starting well in advance. Amazon, for example, is beginning its Black Friday on Nov. 14. Crazy or crazy smart? Just how early is too early to shop for Christmas 2012 gifts? Take our poll.

Sports Clips Haircuts—A Spot for Real Guys to Get a Hair Cut

Sports Clips Haircuts just opened in New Lenox. It's like a modern day barber shop where a guy can get his hair cut, talk sports and watch a game on ESPN.

Sports Clips Haircuts owner Jim Dahl just opened his fourth barber shop-kind of place. It's a venue where guys feel comfortable getting their hair cut. There are no services for dying hair or getting a permanent. Pastel-colored boxes of nail polish are nowhere to be found. In the nutshell, Sports Clips, located at 420 E. Lincoln Highway, is for guys, said Dahl. It's an eight-chair shop that features a wall mural of a football game. A big screen TV is set on ESPN and the magazine rack is stuffed with the likes of Sports Illustrated.  There's a row of lockers to stuff a backpack or a baseball cap, but there is no place to get a manicure or facial.  "We're geared toward guys, but we take women too," as long as it's just a hair cut.
