When District 210 presented numerous options to balance its budget, some parents were curious about possible revenue that wasn't discussed. During a community forum last month, a couple parents why the Lincoln-Way High School District wouldn't sell properties it owns to help make up for a budget deficit. Supt. Larry Wyllie said in a later interview that the answer is pretty simple: One property would be sold now if a buyer was in place, and the others would be worth more to the district if sold or built on later, not now. D122 to Consolidate Kindergarten to Spencer Trail

Because of stagnant enrollment in New Lenox kindergarten classes, District 122 will consolidate all students into Spencer Trail and use Cherry Hill as an early childhood center.

Because of stagnant enrollment in New Lenox classes, District 122 will consolidate all kindergarten students into Spencer Trail and use Cherry Hill as an early childhood center. The district announced these changes during its Wednesday meeting, and they are planned to take effect with the 2012-13 school year. Currently, both schools are only about half full with district students. But Spencer houses other programs, including Project Begin and Early Childhood, and for the first time this year the district rented Cherry Hill classrooms to the Lincoln-Way Special Education District 843. In this scenario, all kindergarten students will go to school at Spencer Trail. Associate Supt. Peggy Manville said there will still be four open classrooms …

The principal at Trail was a principal long before Mrs. Cucci was. She is not the new principal. In fact, Mrs. Cucci was her assistant principal before becoming principal at Cherry Hill. When Mrs. Cucci was teaching at Cherry HIll, the current principal at Trail was her assistant principal under Mrs. Mangan who has since retired..It's very unlikely they would demote Mrs. Motsch. She does an …   more ›

D122 Reviews Six Bus Schedule Options

The New Lenox school board changed bus times last year, and following some parents' complaints agreed to look at new options. The board reviewed six options, all of which would increase costs in a time that the state is cutting transportation funding.

The District 122 school board reviewed six options to change bus schedules for next year and what their financial impact would be. Last year, the school board changed bus times that allowed the district to cut 16 drivers and 19 buses, saving about $372,000 to help reduce the district's budget deficit. It moved the drop-off times for grades 4-6 to 7:30 a.m., junior high and morning kindergarten at 8:20 and grades 1-3 at 9:10. These moves concerned some parents who thought the start time was too early for younger kids, and they said they would also need to make new after-school plans because junior high students were still in class. All six options, including one that would keep things the same as this year, will result in additional costs. …

Annual Budget Audit Comes With Good Financial News for D210

Despite a tough financial year, the school district receives 'a real solid report,' with assets exceeding liabilities.

Number-by-number, line-by-line. That's how the accountants at Chicago's Mulcahy, Pauritsch, Salvador & Co. audited the Lincoln-Way High School District 210 budget for the 2010-11 school year. The annual audit, which the board approved, came back with positive news for the district said Ed McCormick, a representative from the firm. “Basically, it's a clean opinion,” McCormick said at Thursday's board meeting at Lincoln-Way West High School. “This is what you as a board should hope to hear, and I'm very pleased to be able to give it, because the way things are going these days, this is not always the opinion we are able to issue.” McCormick told the board that the district's assets exceeded its liabilities for the 2010-11 year. He added that…

Financial Forecast Brighter Than Expected for D122

Thanks to an additional state payment and less spending than expected, the school district will be about $1 million in the black after anticipating ending fiscal year 2011 in debt.

Every six months, the New Lenox School District 122 board is updated with the district's five-year financial forecast to stay on top of district finances and get a glimpse into the future. During a strategic planning session Monday night, the board was happy to hear that six months after facing a $3.2 million budget deficit, the school district have a surplus of about $1 million at the end of fiscal year 2011. Bentley/Tyler Projects Top $6.7M List of Needed School Repairs

The District 122 school board got an update on the top 10 facility needs in New Lenox schools during a strategic planning meeting Monday.

To help District 122 board members begin prioritizing school facility needs, they were given a list of the top 10 most important building repair projects, which totaled about $6.7 million.  Supt. Mike Sass said past boards have had to focus on acquiring land for buildings or constructing new schools, but this board's goal should be to determine the best way to finance necessary projects. “If repairs were left unattended could result in disrupting our ability to provide a clean, safe and comfortable learning environment," facilities director Bob Nelson said. During the board's strategic planning session on Monday, Legat Architects President Pat Brosnan outlined a number of options the district would have to raise money for facility …
