New Lenox Village Engineer Will Nash provides regular updates on the Route 30 Construction Project and how it affects the flow of traffic. New Lenox appears to be a community where businesses want to set up shop. All total 44 businesses registered with the village this year—16 of them are located within the Silver Cross Hospital Campus. Along with restaurants and fitness ventures came educational-oriented opportunities, law offices, a cheerleading organization, auto repair companies and more. The reason might be that local businesses finds significant support at the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce and from Village. Mayor Tim Baldermann did his share of pumping up the business community at Christmas time by running radio ads on local Joliet stations, including WJOL and Star 96. What about development on the south side of town?
The village's study on the vision of the Route 30 Corridor got many residents suggesting a more pedestrian-friendly commercial area. Obviously Route 30 is a main drag, which could be problematic for the development of a substantial pedestrian-friendly commercial district. Patch posed the question on Facebook about development on the south side of town. The Village Station project along Laraway and Cedar Roads was first proposed in 2005. So what's with the speed limit. I've seen cops in Mokena giving tickets along Rt 30. I'm trying to drive the limit, but I usually end up going aroung 40 MPH. Still there are cars wizzing by going 45-50, and others going 35 or less. When you you get to a group of drivers going aroung 40 there always someone weaving through traffic trying to go faster.
