Providence Catholic High Hosts 11th Annual Math Bowl

Nearly 300 area 6-8th graders participated in the 11th Annual Math Bowl.

By Jamie O'Brien PCHS Director of Communications Nearly 300 area students from 20 surrounding schools participated in Providence Catholic High School’s 11th Annual Math Bowl on Saturday, April 27.  The competition was open to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students and broken down between private and public schools.  Providence Catholic extends its warmest thanks and congratulations to all of the students, parents and schools who participated in this exciting event. Providence Catholic High School Principal Don Sebestyen congratulates the 2013 NHS inductees.

Don Sebestyen, principal of Providence Catholic High School, is proud to announce the 2013 National Honor Society (NHS) members, which were officially inducted during a ceremony in mid-March.  “These new members have received one of the highest honors granted to students at Providence Catholic and other high schools across the nation and we are very proud of their extraordinary academic achievements,” said Sebestyen. Providence Catholic National Honor Society is founded on the principles of scholarship, leadership, character and service.  The selection process begins when students who meet academic qualifications are given applications for NHS membership. Dog Program to Sniff Out Drugs & Ammo in School, D122 Calls it Proactive

NLSD122 plans to bring in a dog to sniff out drugs, firearms and ammunition as a safety measure.

New Lenox School District 122 is bringing in a handler and his dog to sniff for drugs, firearms and ammunition as a precaution. Administrators are working out a schedule to introduce Interquest Detection Canines—Glenn VadeBoncoeur and his dog—to the schools. In the wake of the Sandy Hook School shooting in December 2012, school officials have been revamping and hyping up their security measures. The program is planned to get underway before the end of the school year.   Nick DiSandro, president of the NLSD122 Board, said, "With an increase in drug related deaths in Will County and the safety issues across the country, the board and the administration feel this is a proactive way to increase safety and security in our schools." Providence Catholic Cheerleaders Named Grand National Champions

Celtic varsity cheerleaders take home the top trophy from the NCA Open Nationals Championship in Louisville, KY.

Providence Catholic High School varsity cheerleaders were crowned Grand National Champions at the NCA Open Nationals Championship. They were honored for their achievement Feb. 25 at the New Lenox Village Board meeting. Mayor Tim Baldermann read a proclamation in their honor, citing their hard work and commitment.    The 21-member squad captured the award Feb. 23 in Louisville, KY. The Celtics took first place and were named National Champions in the Advanced Small Varsity Division, said Jamie O'Brien, PCHS communications director. "They also had the highest score of all the divisions at the competition, which earned them the Grand National Champion title." College Signing Day: 4 Providence Football Players Make Commitments

Four seniors made their selections official in ceremony at school on Wednesday.

Don Sebestyen, principal of Providence Catholic High School, highlighted the achievements of senior football players Brian Fordon, Jack Fordon, Tony Petta and Kevin Ward. They each committed to continue their football careers at the collegiate level. “We are extremely proud of these student-athletes who are leaders among their peers and have worked hard in the classroom and on the field.
