Operation Christmas Child, an annual program to help supply needy children with shoes, was locally dubbed "Kartons for Karly" this year. It's another way that Lincoln-Way communities have found to honor the little girl who died Oct. 13 in a two-car collision in Kankakee County. Katie Little, 10, suffered only minor injuries in the accident; however, her father, Ken Little, was hospitalized for a few weeks in the aftermath of the accident. He suffered internal injuries, but is recuperating. Neighbors and friends of the Little Family have found a variety of ways to lend support, but this one is unique. The Scouts in New Lenox are going door-to-door until Nov. 6 to deliver grocery bags that need filling for the three local food pantries. Filled grocery bags are scheduled for pick up Nov. 11.
For two more days, the New Lenox Scouts will be delivering grocery bags they hope will be filled with donated food items. Their aim is to collect enough donations to stock the food pantries for the holidays and beyond. The goal is to collect 50,000 food items. They'll stop back on Nov. 11 to collect the donations of non-perishable food. All items will be delivered to the designated sorting and distribution site. Family and friends mourn the loss of Karly Little, who died in a two-car accident Oct. 13 in Kankakee County.
New Lenox said "good bye" Monday to Karly Little, the New Lenox 9-year-old who died in a tragic two-car accident Oct. 13 in Kankakee County. The funeral service was held at New Life Church, 500 Gougar Road. The solemn service was crowded with family and friends, and the wake was held Oct. 28 at Colonial Funeral Chapel in Orland Park. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frankfort. Little, a fourth-grader at Nelson Ridge School, was a passenger in the car driven by her father, Ken Little, 53. Karly was pronounced dead at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Her father and sister, 11-year-old Katie, were taken to Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Her father, Ken Little, is still recovering at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee from injuries sustained in the two-car collision. Karly's sister, 11-year-old Katie, received minor injuries and was released from the hospital on Oct. 15. My heart breaks for this family. I know the article is about the fund that was created, but as I read the words, I can't help but wonder how the family is possibly feeling at this time of loss. The tragedy of losing a child - the daughter's loss of losing her sister. The money will help with the expenses, I only wish it could heal the pain this family will feel for the rest of their lives.   more ›
Tots to teens lap up island theme at VBS.
The children's ministry along with the worship team at New Life Church on Gougar Road came together Wednesday to host a five-day Vacation Bible School program. At least 200 children from the surrounding communities attended the lively event that featured a South Pacific island theme. A band of teenagers called The Island Toppers greeted youngsters with an enthusiastic rendidtion of praise music, featuring vocalists, musicians and dancers. A host of other activities such as crafts and foot races were spread out throughout the building and outside.
