New Lenox Community Park District's Touch-A-Truck event captured the interest of hundreds at Walker Park.
By Lauren Lotz The parking lot was jam-packed with an ambulance, backhoe, crane, dump trucks, fire trucks, limousine, natural gas powered cement truck, police car and motorcycle, residential trash truck, school bus, semi-truck, tractor, TV camera truck and vactor truck all for this year’s Touch-ATruck event. The new venue, Walker Park, again proved to be a memorable event for kids in the Lincoln Way area with over 500 people in attendance. Throughout the day, the young attendees were able to experience each of these vehicles or machines up close. Gov. Pat Quinn awarded the grants at a ceremony May 11 in Oak Park.
Gov. Pat Quinn awarded New Lenox Community Park District $287,500 to develop one neighborhood park with more than playground equipment and basketball hoops. Walker Park is destined to be developed in at the intersection of Lenox Street and Cooper Road. It was selected for features that utilize a natural bioswale that doubles as a rain garden, handicapped accessible fishing station out to the pond, walking path, splash pad and more. Gov. Pat Quinn was on-hand May 11 to announce the award at a ceremony at Oak Park Community Park District. NLCPD Board President Brian Fischer, Parks Supt. Dale Larson, commissioner of the New Lenox Community Park District, was recently appointed sergeant-at-arms of the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ (IAPD) board of trustees. As sergeant-at-arms, Larson will assist the association with its mission of advancing Illinois park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies in their ability to preserve natural resources and improve the quality of life for all people in Illinois. New Lenox Pride triumphs at Dec. 28-Dec. 30 holiday basketball tournament
The New Lenox Community Park District’s Competitive Basketball League, the New Lenox Pride, were triumphant in a holiday basketball tournament held December 28th – 30th. Both the 5th and 8th grade girls teams took first place in the Kaneland Holiday Basketball Tournament held in Kaneville, Ill. Each team won an impressive five games providing the New Lenox Pride teams with a perfect 10-0 record. The 5th grade team defeated Yorkville, Kaneland A, Kaneland B, and the South Suburban Wildcats twice over the weekend tournament. The second win over the South Suburban Wildcats was in the championship game. It was a hard fought contest, but the determination of this 5th grade New Lenox Pride team was too strong to be denied winning with a score of…

The New Lenox Community Park District’s Board is seeking candidates to fill to positions on the board. The board is seeking to fill two commissioner spots for four-year terms. The upcoming upcoming Consolidated Election is scheduled for April 9, 2013. Petitions can be picked up at the Lions Community Center located at 1 Manor Drive in New Lenox and circulated beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The filing period begins on Monday, Dec. 17, and continues through Monday, Dec. 24 at the Lions Community Center. Office hours are from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
