Mokena Bank Robber Strikes Again in Tinley Park

The man who stole more than $3,000 from a bank on Front Street last Thursday is believed to have recently robbed a bank in Tinley Park Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The robber who stole $3,490 from the Chase Bank location on Front Street last week is believed to be the same man who robbed a First Midwest Bank branch in Tinley Park on Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. In both cases, the robber did not use a weapon and fled the scene on foot. The Mokena robbery occurred at 1:33 p.m. Feb. 21. The Tinley Park incident took place at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 26. The offender is approximately 40 years old, 5-foot, 4-inches tall and 200 pounds, according to Mokena police reports. The teller manning the Chase Bank station that was robbed said that the man had an unshaven face and was wearing sunglasses, a dark colored beanie and a grey sweatshirt with a logo. UPDATE: No Formal Possession Charges in Heroin Overdose Traffic Stop Case

Michael Matela was booked into Will County Jail pending several formal possession charges, none of which were filed, after a police traffic stop turned into a medical emergency.

Updated: 3:52 p.m. Thursday The Will County State's Attorney on Jan. 7 declined to file formal possession charges against Michael S. Matela, of Frankfort, after Mokena police performed a traffic stop on the car he was driving and discovered a man suffering from a heroin overdose in the car’s passenger seat. Formal charges for improper lane usage were filed against Matela. Matela was booked into Will County Jail on Jan. 4, pending formal charges for possession of a controlled substance, cannabis possession and paraphernalia possession.  He appeared in Will County Circuit Court on Jan. 17, where he received a sentence of $185 in fines and three months supervision for improper traffic lane use. --- A Frankfort man faces felony drug charges …

If You Can't Drive Home After the New Year's Eve Party, What Do You Do?

Feeling a bit tipsy after the New Year's Eve party, why not call for a free limousine ride.

New Lenox and Mokena are among a group of five south suburbs that have joined forces with the Village of Orland Park to keep communities safe from inebriated drivers on New Year's Eve. The Village of Orland Park has offered the free Safe Ride Home Program for nearly 20 years, with Palos Heights, Mokena, Tinley Park and New Lenox all coming on board over the last several years. "It's one of those nights for the whole year that the community thinks of as a special event. Our concern is that they get home safely," said New Lenox Deputy Chief of Police Bob Pawlisz. Arrest Warrants: Wanted for Heroin, Related Substance, DUI Charges in LW Communities

Lincoln-Way communities of New Lenox, Mokena and Frankfort. The Will County Sheriff's Department last updated its warrants list on Dec. 5, 2012.

A heroin and substance abuse symposium, Will County HELPS (Heroin Education Leads to Preventative Solutions,) designed to assist families impacted by substance abuse, particularly heroin was held Sept. 28 in New Lenox. Between 450-500 people packed the program to glean insights about the ways to avoid, identify and grapple with these issues. Click here to learn more.
