Last week's gas boycott in New Lenox brought prices below Mokena and Frankfort, but MayorTim Baldermann isn't satisfied.
The gas boycott last week in New Lenox brought prices below Mokena and Frankfort, but Mayor Baldermann isn't satisfied. Mayor Tim Baldermann is taking the last few weeks of gas station price gouging to Attorney General Lisa Madigan. At the regular village board meeting Monday, he said he's asking Madigan's office to investigate the matter. Residents in New Lenox had been subjected to prices between 11 cents and 13 cents higher per gallon than Mokena and Frankfort for "a solid three weeks." After a boycott was called for last week, the price of gas actually went up on May 17 from $4.21 to $425. For at least part of the day, most stations across the Lincoln-Way communities were charging the same. Since then prices have come dropped to $4.…

Despite a call from Mayor Tim Baldermann to boycott the eight gas stations in New Lenox because they're price "gouging," the Speedway on Route 30 just west of Cedar Road boosted its price to $4.25 per gallon of regular. According to Gas Buddy, prices at service stations in Mokena hover around $4.09 per gallon. In this video, one customer shared her thoughts, while gasing up the car. Mayor Tim Baldermann is once more supporting a boycott of gas stations in New Lenox. "They're gouging," he said.
Mayor Tim Baldermann is calling for a total boycott of the seven gas stations in New Lenox because they're price "gouging." Gas stations in New Lenox are charging 12 cents more per gallon of regular than every other station in the Lincoln-Way communities. Of the seven New Lenox stations listed by Gas Buddy—four Speedway, one 7-Eleven, one BP and one Shell station—the price for a gallon of regular gas is exactly the same. New Lenox residents are paying $4.21 per gallon compared to $4.09 in Mokena and Frankfort. This is the second time that Baldermann has advised residents to take their business elsewhere. That means don't shop in the local gas stations for milk, bread, pop or morning coffee until the owners of these franchises drop prices …

Expansion project on hold during the economic downturns is resurrected.
Trustees gave their nod of approval and reviewed water and sanitary sewer upgrades at the regular Monday meeting of the Village Board. A plan to expand the Village's wastewater treatment plant has been revived and set in motion with authorization of an updated engineering proposal. Trustees authorized an updated engineering services plan by Aecom Engineers, of Chicago, for the design and expansion of Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 2. The plan is to double the capacity of the plant from three-quarters of a million gallons a day (MGD) to 1.5 MGD. It was initiated in 2006, when design engineering services were started. A combination of permitting problems related to Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 1 together with the economic downturn worked …

The Village of New Lenox is fielding questions about potential occupancy.
It's been only four days since the popular Charley Horse Restaurant and Pub closed its doors suddenly on Feb. 4, but already the Village of New Lenox has had inquiries from similar businesses. Mayor Tim Baldermann, who was caught off-guard by the surprise closure, said Thursday that some people have expressed an interest in the building at 901 E. Lincoln Highway. The first question interested parties want to know about is the process for getting a liquor license. Liquor licenses are not transferable, he added. A fresh application is necessary for each new restaurant that wants to serve alcohol. The Route 30 construction project, which makes it awkward to find the entrance cut specifically on the main drag, has not seemed to deter …
