UPDATE: Andrew's Caily Friel is Patch MVP

5A Football: JCA Staves Off Lincoln-Way West 21-20 in Overtime Thriller

Joliet Catholic Academy 21, Lincoln-Way West 20 (OT): Zach Rezin and J.B. Butler teamed up to stop the Warriors' Justin Keuch inches short on a potential game-winning two-point conversion run on the final play in Saturday's thriller in New Lenox.

Breaking It Down: When Ty Isaac exited with an injury in the fourth quarter, Joliet Catholic Academy turned to Michael Ivlow and its defense to stave off Lincoln-Way West 21-20 in an overtime thriller in the Class 5A football quarterfinals Saturday in New Lenox. Ivlow scored on a 1-yard run. Brian Bravo kicked the extra point and JCA led 21-14. Lincoln-Way West’s Javier Montalvo cut the margin to 20-20 on a 10-yard touchdown run. The Warriors elected to go for two points and the win. Justin Keuch was stopped inches short on a quarterback read-option play by JCA’s Zach Rezin and J.B. Butler. Lincoln-Way West Faces Joliet Catholic in Quarterfinals for Class 5A Football

Lincoln-Way West wins over Kaneland by a score of 31-15 in the second round of IHSA football playoffs.

As the victors Saturday over top-seeded Kaneland, the Warriors (8-3) are headed to the Class 5A quarterfinals against Joliet Catholic (7-4). Game time will be announced Monday. For the second week in a row, the Warriors (8-3) will have the home-field advantage.   In their first-time entrance into quarterfinals, according to a SunTimes Media report, the Warriors defense gave them an early lead in the battle against the Knights. Homecoming Olympics kicks off Lincoln-Way West Warriors Week of Celebration

The spirit of giving is integrated in Lincoln-Way West Warriors Homecoming Week.

The Lincoln-Way West Warrior Homecoming 2012 events kicked off with the Homecoming Olympics on Monday, October 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with an enthusiastic crowd of over 800 students, teachers and staff members participating in 81 teams. "All the students had so much fun, you could hear it in their laughter and see it in their faces. We are so pleased with the number of students participating this year in the Homecoming Olympics," stated Monica Schmitt, principal. The 81 teams of 8 students each and a teacher/staff sponsor participated in six different events for the Homecoming Olympics: Tennis Ball Relay, Wacky Waiter Relay, Sock Wars, Nose Goes, Frozen T- shirt Challenge, and the Tug of War, noted Heather Novak, Coordinator of Student …

Oak Lawn's Rachel Kestian was distributing the wealth in the Spartans' straight-sets victory over Hillcrest. She outpolled 11 others in fan balloting for Patch MVP, Aug. 26-Sept. 1. Kestian is now eligible for Patch Athlete of the Month honors.

Lincoln-Way West Football Preview: Climbing the Coaching Ladder

Find out how Lincoln-Way West Warriors head coach Dave Ernst went from an offensive coordinator to his current position, and watch a video preview of the team.

In the working world, some people are presented with two options: to either stay where they are within their cozy surroundings or take a chance and make a leap into uncharted territory. Dave Ernst got the opportunity to take a leap. After being the offensive coordinator at Providence Catholic from 1995-2000, Lincoln-Way Central from 2002-2007 and Lincoln-Way West from 2008-2011, Dave Ernst finally got the chance to take the position of head coach for the Warriors coming into the 2012 season after coach Mark VanderKooi became an athletic director.  "It was one of those things when Mark got the job, I thought being a head coach would be fun," Ernst said. Notre Dame Football Snags Local Recruit

Junior offensive lineman Colin McGovern, of Lincoln-Way West, gave his verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish over the weekend.

As Lincoln-Way West's football program continues to grow, the colleges seeking its players are, too. According to the South Bend Tribune, junior offensive lineman Colin McGovern gave his verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish over the weekend.  McGovern, a 6-foot-6, 295-pound tackle, has drawn lots of interest from major football programs.  He received 14 offers thus far, including nine from Big Ten schools and other big programs that included national champion Alabama and recent Big 12 transplant West Virginia, according to 247sports.com.  Do you have news about other local recruits?
