Parade for Knights Girls Water Polo Champs

The Lincoln-Way Central High School Girls Water Polo team brought home their first-ever trophy from State. The Knights ranked No. 2 at IHSA Water Polo games May 18 in Lincolnshire.

The Lincoln-Way Central High School Girls Water Polo Team brought home the IHSA trophy for second place. The Knights played St. Ignatius May 18 at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. The final score was 12-9. While that may have been an emotional loss, there was no sign of it Sunday afternoon. The girls season was celebrated in a parade Sunday that started in Manhattan at noon and wound through New Lenox. Fire trucks, emergency vehicles, police and  car loads of supporters, sporting congratulatoy signs or messages sprayed across car windows told the girls water polo team that they made the school and the community proud. The parade halted at Martino Jr. High School, where the girls boarded the top of an emergency truck and pared slowly …

Signing Day: Stanford Gets L-W Central Student-Athlete; 2 More Sign for College Sports

Lincoln-Way Central athletes signed their letters of intent Wednesday: two for softball and one for water polo.

Stanford University in California is known the world-over for its academic excellence and athletic prowess. Among its lengthy list of notable alumni are news broadcaster Ted Koppel and Sally Ride, the first woman astronaut, along with five U.S. Supreme Court Justices, three poet laureates, a Nobel Prize-winning economist and 11 Olympians. This coming fall, its list of future notables comes from New Lenox: 18-year-old Danijela Jackovich. The Lincoln-Way Central High School senior signed an athletic letter of intent Wednesday. She'll be joining the university's acclaimed water polo team.
