Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way West high schools hosted their annual Spring Art Shows.
By Charla Brautigam Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way West high schools hosted their annual Spring Art Shows this month, giving area residents, students, faculty and staff a chance to view a variety of student artwork. On display were more than 250 pieces, including drawings, paintings, photography, jewelry, graphic design, ceramics, animation and art fundamentals. “This year’s collection was some of our strongest work ever,” said Paul Faris, the art department chair at Lincoln-Central and Lincoln-Way West high schools. “These students enjoy what they do and take their work seriously, which is apparent by the quality of artwork they create.” Awards of Excellence were presented to the following Lincoln-Way Central students: Dylan Rigsby…

A funeral service with prayers will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, and then to St. Anthony Church, 7659 W. Sauk Trail, Frankfort, for a funeral Mass. Austin Lempera, of New Lenox, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012. He was 16. He was born Dec. 6, 1995, to parents Steven Lempera and Connie (nee) Bochenek. Austin was an honor roll student and a varsity football player at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Frankfort. He is survived by his brother Westley; nephew Thomas Lempera, Jeff (Donna) Lempera, Thomas (Carol) Bochenke, Kim (John) Crowley; Linda (late Ray) Bochenek, and the late Julie Kornecki. He is also survived by many loving friends and relatives. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Kurtz Goodale Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort. 16-year-old Austin Lempera died Monday night in New Lenox.
A Lincoln-Way Central football player died Monday night of an apparent heart attack, Will County Sheriff's Police said. New Lenox Township resident Austin Lempera, 16, was pronounced dead at 7:54 p.m. after he was taken to Silver Cross Hospital. While an autopsy is scheduled for later today by the Will County Coroner's Office, physicians at Silver Cross Hospital reported that it appears that Lempera died of an undiagnosed heart condition. Tests revealed that his condition looked as though he suffered from a cardiac arrhythmia. Lempera, a high school junior, was an offensive lineman on the Lincoln-Way Central Knights football team. The Lincoln-Way Central Homecoming Week Pep Rally Friday was an exciting event for all 2,031 members of the entire student body. The Homecoming King , Queen and Court were announced at the end of Friday’s festivities which included many fun activities, events, and videos featuring teachers, students, and school administrators, all with the theme of “Hollywood Homecoming.” Lincoln-Way Central Homecoming King is Timothy Nagel and Queen is Ellen Shepherd. Both are seniors. “I always wanted to be King, this makes my senior year very exciting,” stated Timothy Nagel. Central Homecoming Queen Ellen Shepherd said, “It feels so special.
