Brian Wilhelm of New Lenox recently earned a Departmental Awards at Lewis University. Wilhelm was the recipient of the Computer Science Award. The Departmental Award is the highest award given to a student in each major. Wilhelm was honored at the College of Arts and Sciences Senior Honors Ceremony held at the university’s Main Campus in Romeoville. Recipients of the Departmental Award must have a GPA greater than 3.5 and must represent his or her academic department well in all respects, including character, potential, integrity and service. Romeoville police say Lewis University student Jamie Olson took steps to conceal her involvement in the suspected heroin death of her friend.
A 20-year-old Frankfort woman died of a drug overdose while at a Lewis University dorm this weekend, and the friend with whom she was staying has been arrested for trying to conceal her role in the death, Romeoville police said Monday. Anna Marinier was found dead at Fitzpatrick Hall at about 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Romeoville Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said. Although toxicology tests are still pending, it's suspected she overdosed on heroin, he said. Her friend, Jamie Olson, 21, of 9125 Letterkenny, Tinley Park, was arrested Sunday night on a felony charge of obstruction of justice and booked into the Will County jail. One of the many aspects Larry Tucker enjoys about being the principal at Marist High School is the old acquaintances he runs into through the years. Even if some bring back bad memories. “Mallory Salis, who is a student at Marist and was on the state volleyball team, came up to me after a game this year and told me her dad (Gary) played against me,” Tucker said. “I asked what team he played for and when she said Oak Lawn I realized that he was the one that ended my high school career. He hit a half-court shot to win the game. When he came down from the stands, we gave each other a hard time. That’s what I love about athletics, you make so many connections with people.” The heartbreaking loss never dampened Tucker’s experience at Marist. …

Two Lincoln-Way Central student athletes put pen to paper Wednesday to signify they'll take their game to the next level. One's season just ended, the other's is just beginning. But they've both made a big impact on Knight athletics the last four years. Brad Foster, a basketball player from New Lenox, signed with Lewis University. Danielle Dowd, a volleyball player from Manhattan, will continue her sport at Ferris State University in Michigan. Foster is a 6-foot, 8-inch center with a 3.947 GPA, and he plans to major in pre-physical therapy. After a solid junor year and success in AAU summer ball, Lincoln-Way Central big man Brad Foster has committed to play in college at Lewis University. According to Sun-Times Media, Foster is among the top 35 basketball prospects in Illinois. The 6-foot-8 center had some interest from other colleges, including Stanford and Northwestern, after averaging 13.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game this year while shooting 58 percent.
