A lawsuit against an imprisoned preacher from Crete and an Indiana megachurch topped the week's court news.
A former megachurch preacher sentenced to 12 years in federal prison in March for carrying on a sexual relationship with a teenage member of his congregation was sued in Will County court. In addition to preacher Jack Schaap, 55, of Crete, the First Baptist Church of Hammond was named as a defendant in the lawsuit. The parents of a teenage girl Schaap had sex with while he was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hammond filed the lawsuit. The suit identifies the parents as "John Doe and Mary Doe," and the teen as "Jane Doe." The suit gives Jane Doe's date of birth as June 27, 1995. New Lenox School District 122 board member Kathy Miller filed a federal lawsuit against fellow board member Maureen Broderick, accusing her of violating her 1st and 14th amendment rights.
New Lenox School District 122 board member Kathy Miller filed a federal lawsuit against fellow board member Maureen Broderick. The suit alleges that Broderick violated Miller's First and 14th amendment rights. According to the Miller's attorney Mike Foley, the suit was filed on March 27 at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago. The lawsuit stems from the Jan. 11 election hearing regarding Miller's candidate petition. The 2-1 vote at that hearing temporarily removed Miller's name from the April 9 election ballot. Ultimately, Miller was placed back on the ballot. The notary error on the petition was determined on Jan. 28 to be insufficient to eliminate incumbent Miller from the New Lenox school board ballot, Will County Judge John Anderson…

A man claims he suffered "severe and permanent injuries" while taking care of a woman's cat.
A "vicious" cat so grievously wounded a Homer Glen man that he is suing its owner for at least $100,000. The suit, filed at the Will County Courthouse on behalf of William Baxter, claims the cat's owner, Christine Bobak, "should have known (her) cat had vicious propensities in that, upon information and belief, the cat had attacked at least one other person on at least one prior occasion." But whether Bobak or Baxter knew the cat was vicious or not, Baxter ended up taking care of the animal in April 2011, the suit said, and that was when the cat "without provocation, viciously attacked, bit and clawed" Baxter. The suit did not make clear whether Bobak's pet was just some run-of-the-mill house cat or something more considerable and exotic, …

This time, a woman is accusing Dr. Kishor Jain of molesting her underage daughter.
The Frankfort pediatrician facing a felony sex case for allegedly groping five women in his office and already targeted in no less than three civil suits filed by women claiming he molested them was sued again Thursday. This time, one of Dr. Kishor Jain's patients from the Hedges Clinic has accused the pediatrician of sexually assaulting her underage daughter. The woman, identified only as "Mother Doe" in the suit, said she took her daughter to Jain's office on June 19, 2012, for an examination and to get a prescription refilled. After the visit, the child followed her mother out, the lawsuit said, "when all of a sudden (Jain) unbuttoned and unzipped the minor plaintiff's pants while she was standing and put his hand inside her underwear…

A Frankfort pediatrician facing felony sex charges and a pair of civil lawsuits has been sued again.
A week after losing his medical license indefinitely, a Frankfort pediatrician already facing a felony sex case and a pair of civil suits alleging he groped women in his office was sued again. The latest woman to sue Dr. Kishor Jain, Rebecca Miller, was also named in the criminal complaint filed against the pediatrician in February. The criminal complaint says Jain fondled Miller's breast. Four other women are named along with Miller in the criminal complaint. One of them is also suing Jain. In the lawsuit filed on Miller's behalf at the Will County Courthouse, Miller claims Jain "spent a long time touching her breasts and during that time he became aroused and (she) could tell he had an erection." The Illinois Department of Financial & …

The state has indefinitely suspended Dr. Kishor Jain's medical license after he refused to testify at a hearing in Chicago Tuesday.
The Frankfort pediatrician facing a felony sex case and a pair of civil suits alleging he groped women in his office lost his medical license to an indefinite suspension after refusing to testify at a hearing Tuesday. The Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation suspended Dr. Kishor Jain's license last month pending Tuesday's hearing before an administrative law judge. Jain attended the hearing in Chicago with an attorney, said IDFPR spokeswoman Susan Hofer, but would not testify when called to do so. "Without his testimony, the case cannot go forward and the suspension remains in place," Hofer said. The Hedges Clinic on Colorado Avenue, where Jain allegedly molested the women, had already parted ways with the doctor. …

Frankfort pediatrician Kishor Jain was sued by another woman claiming he groped her.
The Frankfort pediatrician slapped with felony sex charges and facing a civil lawsuit was sued again in Will County court. Dr. Kishor Jain, who also lost his medical license pending a March 5 hearing before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, now has been accused by six different women of groping them in recent years. The most recent lawsuit naming Jain as a defendant was brought by Kelly Meister, 34, of Frankfort. Meister claims that between 2007 and 2011, Jain once stuck his hand down her shirt and touched her breast, according to the lawsuit. On another occasion Jain massaged her breast and "became aroused and was making panting sounds as if he was clearly enjoying himself," the suit said. Jain also "made …

Arena football coach and Romeoville mayoral hopeful Steve "Mongo" McMichael recalled how his former player "blew his knee out" during a preseason practice.
An arena football player claiming he suffered an injury while practicing at Megaplex in Homer Glen is suing the fitness facility for allegedly failing to keep its artificial turf affixed to the floor. Lawrence Goffer was practicing with the Chicago Slaughter in February 2011 when the "turf below his foot gave way" and he got hurt, according to the lawsuit filed at the Will County Courthouse. Goffer, a defensive back and wide receiver, was planting his foot when the turf came loose, the lawsuit said. Slaughter coach—and Romeoville mayoral hopeful—Steve "Mongo" McMichael remembered the day of Goffer's injury. "He blew out his knee out and we lost him for the season," said McMichael, a two-time All-Pro and starter on the 1985 Super Bowl …
