New Lenox residents came together this month to vote, to cheer, to give thanks, to cry and more. Take a look at the top 10 stories in Patch for November.
November 2012 is destined to stand out because it brought Americans together for a specific purpose—the Presidential Election. And New Lenox was no different. The 20 precincts in the community saw a record voter turn-out; however, voters here would have preferred Mitt Romney. The American spirit and the realization of the freedoms enjoyed in this nation were lived out in genuine New Lenox style this month. The Scouts collected for a food drive, and those who sacrificed on our behalf were memorialized in a time-honored tradition on Veterans Day at the Village Commons. Operation Christmas Child created a legacy for 9-year-old Karly Little. The locally-run Christian relief program has been dubbed "Karly's Kartons." The shoe boxes they fill for girls will feature a letter about Karly and the kind of trinkets she liked.

Family and friends mourn the loss of Karly Little, who died in a two-car accident Oct. 13 in Kankakee County.
New Lenox said "good bye" Monday to Karly Little, the New Lenox 9-year-old who died in a tragic two-car accident Oct. 13 in Kankakee County. The funeral service was held at New Life Church, 500 Gougar Road. The solemn service was crowded with family and friends, and the wake was held Oct. 28 at Colonial Funeral Chapel in Orland Park. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frankfort. Little, a fourth-grader at Nelson Ridge School, was a passenger in the car driven by her father, Ken Little, 53. Karly was pronounced dead at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Her father and sister, 11-year-old Katie, were taken to Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. The Rotary Club of New Lenox organized 'The Little Family Fund." Contributions go to an account at Old Plank Trail Community Bank, of New Lenox.
The tragic death of 9-year-old Karly Little, of New Lenox, in an Oct. 13 car accident in Kankakee County brings a community together to support the family. Her father, Ken Little, is still recovering at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee from injuries sustained in the two-car collision. Karly's sister, 11-year-old Katie, received minor injuries and was released from the hospital on Oct. 15. The New Lenox Rotary Club set up a memorial fund for the Littles to assist in covering expenses associated with the tragedy. The fund, "The Little Family Memorial Fund," has been established at Old Plank Trail Community Bank. The Legacy Girls Traveling Soccer Team paid tribute to Karly Little, of New Lenox, at practice Monday. Little died in a car accident over the weekend.
Parents huddled together on the sidelines of the soccer field at Lincoln-Way Central High School on Monday while members of the Legacy Girls Traveling Soccer Team practiced. It wasn't the usual friendly routine. Instead, the sidelines were somber while parents commented on the tragedy of a life taken too soon. Four others were injured in the accident that took the life of a 9-year-old from Nelson Ridge School. The injured were taken to Riverside Medical Center.
A 9-year-old New Lenox girl was killed and four others were injured in a two-car accident about 10:20 a.m. Saturday in Kankakee County. Karly Little, a 4th-grader at Nelson Ridge School, died as a result of injuries after the car she was riding in collided in the intersection of Kankakee County 6000 N. Road and Route 50 in the area of Bourbonnais and Manteno Townships. She was taken to Provena St. Mary's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
