Fatality on I-80, Minor Accidents and Traffic Backups

Illinois State Police and local police handled a load of accidents Wednesday along Interstate 80. The ripple effects were felt from Veterans Memorial Tollway to Interstate 57.

Illinois State Police and local police departments were involved in the investigation of at least four traffic accidents Wednesday afternoon that led to traffic backups on Interstate 80, Interstate 355 and Interstate 57. Illinois State Police confirmed that one person was killed about 1 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 80 at Harlem after a Ford SUV rear-ended a dump truck. According to the report, at least one person was trapped. The victim's identity has not yet been released. Fatal Accident on I-355: Illinois State Police (UPDATE--2 Fatalities)

One man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate-355 at Boughton Road.

UPDATE: 10:38 p.m. The two killed in the 3 p.m. two-vehicle crash April 27 on Interstate 355 have been identified as an elderly couple from Berwyn. The driver, 87-year-old Daniel Simone, and wife Dimple Simone, 90. The couple was pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Blvd. The Will County Coroner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for Daniel Simone on Monday. An external examination is all the coroner's office has planned for the body of Dimple Simone. The Simones were headed north when their vehicle was hit, police said. I-80 Backed Up Due to Rollover Crash

State police are at the scene of an accident just east of Harlem Avenue on I-80, according to a report.

A rollover crash involving a van has traffic on I-80 backed up from Kedzie Avenue to Ridgeland Avenue, WBBM Newsradio reports. Illinois State police are on the scene of the crash at mile marker 150, just east of Harlem Avenu. Crews were working to clear the crash Wednesday afternoon. Patch will continue to update this story. One Killed in I-80 Truck Crash: Police

The victim has been identified by the coroner's office as a 51-year-old man from Massillon, Ohio.

A crash between two truck tractor semi-trailers at about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 80 near Houbolt Avenue has left one person dead, according to the Illinois State Police. Westbound lanes of I-80 were closed for several hours but have since reopened. The collision started a fire, according to the Will County Coroner's Office. The victim has been identified by the coroner as Richard S. Gustaveo, 51, of Massillon, Ohio. Two other people were injured and treated at the scene. The state police issued this statement, but have provided no other details "The cause of this crash is currently being investigated by Illinois State Police District 05. Further details, when available, will be forthcoming in additional press releases."

UPDATE: Two Injured in Semi-vs.-Car Crash on I-80 at Route 30

Two people were injured in a semi-truck-car crash on Interstate 80 at Route 30. The two were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

UPDATE: Tuesday--9:40 p.m. Illinois State Police Sgt. Jeff Padilla said the driver of the semi-truck had passed out at the wheel after having taken some medication. He was in the right lane of traffic and drifted across all four lanes, clipping the front-end of the SUV. The trailer went all the way left into the wire median, where it came to a stop. The SUV rolled into the right ditch. Both drivers received non-life threatening injuries, according to Padilla. The semi-truck driver was issued a ticked for improper lane use. Car Rear-Ended Semi-Truck on I-80 at Wolf Road: Man Seriously Injured

An eastbound motorist was seriously injured when his car rear-ended a semi-truck on I-80 near Wolf Road.

One man was seriously injured when his white Acura rear-ended a semi-truck at 2:23 p.m. Friday on Interstate 80 near Wolf Road.  New Lenox Firefighters extricated the man, who was pinned in his car. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jeff Padilla said the driver of the Acura was eastbound on I-80 when he rear-ended the semi-truck. The driver was pinned under the back of the semi-truck. He speculated that the semi-truck driver was likely slowing to enter the weigh station. Eastbound traffic is now moving. One lane has been opened, said Padilla. The identities of the two involved in the accident have not yet been revealed.

I-80 Semi-Truck Collision Leaves Man Badly Hurt

The accident was caused by one truck clipping another, forcing the second truck into the median, according to the Illinois State Police.

Update 8:25 p.m. A Chicago man was seriously injured Thursday when his semi-truck was clipped by another semi on Interstate 80, forcing his vehicle into the grassy median west of Briggs Street, Illinois State Police Sgt. James M. Powell said. The accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. when a truck traveling in the right lane of westbound I-80 pulled into the left lane and collided with a second truck already in that lane, Powell said. The impact caused the second truck to veer into the center median. The truck driver, 38, was badly injured and transported to a Joliet-area hospital in critical condition. He has since been upgraded to serious, Powell said. Both lanes of westbound I-80 were closed for more than five hours. One lane of traffic …

See which Gas Station was Nailed for Selling Liquor to a Minor

Illinois State Police conducted spot checks at 24 stores in New Lenox and Mokena. One gas station got caught one store and arrested the employee.

Illinois State Police Zone 3 officers conducted Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) in New Lenox and Mokena. A 30-year-old gas station employee in Mokena was arrested for failing to check if the buyer was old enough.    On Dec. 19, the ACE team surveyed 24 locations in New Lenox and Mokena. Only one store was caught in violation. The Circle K #6703, 19100 S. LaGrange Road, was cited on Dec. 19. An employee, Wille J. Christian III, 30, was arrested for unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor, a Class A misdemeanor. He was released on a notice to appear in court. UPDATE: First I-80 Crash Caused Four Car Chain Reaction

All four westbound lanes on I-80 were closed this morning after five vehicles were involved in two crashes.

Updated: 12:17 p.m. Monday The second of two crashes that took place Monday morning was caused by slow traffic from the initial incident, according to Illinois State Police. The four vehicle chain reaction crash took place on westbound I-80 near La Grange Road, east of the first crash site. UPDATED: Crash Near Shorewood Shuts Down I-80

Two people were injured, one of whom was flown to the hospital via helicopter.

A rollover accident with serious injuries shut down both sides of Interstate 80, west of Interstate 55 near Shorewood, for a short time late Thursday afternoon. Two people were reported injured, one of whom was flown to a local hospital via Lifestar helicopter, Illinois State Police said. All lanes were reopened by 6:45 p.m., police said. Initial reports indicated there were two vehicles involved in the crash, but that's since been corrected. No details on the cause of the accident have been released yet.
