New Lenox's Mestas Musicals is featuring a three-day theatre camp over the Christmas break for children in grades 1-8 at the Hub. The three-day program is the brainchild of New Lenox's Lori Mestas. Having performed on stages around the world, Mestas has shaped her expertise into a creative outlet for children. She calls the program, Making a Difference Children's Theatre. The Christmas break camp is designed to give the kids something fun to do while their off school, she said. "It's all about holiday fun." Camp is scheduled from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 26-28 at the Hub. We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved showcasing everyone’s holiday spirit, but Deck the House isn’t over yet. We’re still looking for the one home so spectacularly decorated that it could be the national grand prize winner of our contest. We will choose 24 finalists from all our entries across the country. Staff at Bentley School purchase gifts for the needy at Christmas time.
New Lenox School District 122 Staff at Bentley School showed their holiday spirit by purchasing gifts for the Giving Tree. For the past few years staff have forgone their Secret Santa grab bag and have bought for those in need instead. A persistent rain failed to keep a crowd of 50-plus well-wishers from welcoming U.S. Marine Cpl. Bobby Owens home from a six-month stint in Afghanistan.
U.S. Marine Cpl. Bobby Owens, who landed Thursday at Chicago's Midway Airport, was officially welcomed home Saturday with a parade of friends and an escort from the police and the New Lenox Fire Protection District. The entourage gathered about 4 p.m. in a parking lot at Route 6 and Briggs Street in Joliet and parade snaked a few miles along Briggs Street, ending at the Belmont Athletic Club.
