Weekend Garage Sales, and How to Add Your Own

Signs at intersections are good, but let your neighbors know about your sale before they happen to pass by it.

If you have a garage sale, we want you to announce it on Patch. Let us be that small sign you hang up at the larger intersections in town. Give people an address they don't have to circle back around the block to get correct, and let them know what's available before they show up and leave disappointed. Economic strife stirs creativity and ingenuity.

In Illinois the unemployment rate remains persistently high. Figures for July 2012 revealed an 8.9 percent rate, which is 0.6 percent higher than the national average, according to the Illinois Unemployment Department of Numbers. Despite slow growth of traditional jobs, people are overcoming these obstacles through creative and intuitive endeavors. Take, for instance, New Lenox's Patrick Kukosh, a 42-year-old union painter who has been out of a laborer's job for two years. His wife, Kristy, is a pediatrics nurse at the University of Chicago Hospital; the couple has a home and three children to raise. The house is neither big nor new. That is quite correct, they only count the number of people on unemployment as those being unemployed, so the number is much higher. Yes i do agree that them taking your sign down is completely petty of them ... But ... On a positive note... At least our police officers do have this time on their hands... This means they are having a crime free day which is a good thing!   more ›
