In between the Taj Gibson and Devin Hester camps on Friday, June 29 at Lincoln-Way Central, they answered questions previewing their teams' upcoming seasons. The Chicago Bears kick-off their season on Sunday, Septemeber 9 at noon. NBA officials have yet to release the Bulls and the rest of the league's schedule for the 2012-13 season.

It is not everyday that there are television crews from ABC, CBS, WGN and CSN at Lincoln-Way Central. However, when two of the most recognizable professional athletes in the Chicago area are in town, it is understandable. "On behalf of the city of New Lenox, we're so excited to not only have great professional athletes that these kids look up to as role models, but (Taj Gibson and Devin Hester) are good qualitly people," said Mayor Tim Baldermann. There were nearly 400 children in attendance for both Hester's football and Gibson's basketball camp on June 29-30 presented by ProCamps. Boys and girl campers alike appeared euphoric to be spending their warm Friday morning on Lincoln-Way Central's football field playing with Chicago Bears' kick returner and wide receiver Devin Hester. Check-out photos from the 2011 Devin Hester, Dwyane Wade football and basketball camps in New Lenox. The camp is open to the public to view the action for one last day, Saturday, June 30. Children that participated in Devin Hester's camp on June 29-30 will never have to put "play backyard football with a Chicago Bear" on their bucket list when they have their mid-life crisis. Parents in the stands knew how special this event was, and would mean to their children once they grow up. There were adults recording video footage and taking photos on their smartphones on every inch surrounding the Lincoln-Way Central football field. Chicago sports stars are putting on football and basketball camps in New Lenox later this week, and there's still time to register. Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson is hosting the basketball camps while Chicago Bears returnman Devin Hester puts on the football camp June 29-30 in New Lenox. The event is hosted by ProCamps, which brought Hester and Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade to New Lenox last year. But Wade canceled this year because of other commitments, winning an NBA title and preparing for a possible Olympics appearance. The camps will be held June 29-30 at Lincoln-Way Central High School. The Chicago Bears and Miami Heat stars are scheduled to come back to town June 29-30, if their schedules work out. They teamed up last year for a two-day sports camp.
Devin Hester and Dwyane Wade are planning a return trip to New Lenox in 2012, and this year they'll be officially employed. Last year, the Chicago Bears and Miami Heat stars were both facing lockouts in their respective sports. After a record-breaking season for Hester and a hot start for Wade's Heat, the athletes are scheduled for another two-day sports camp June 29-30. The two-day event is organized by ProCamps, which recently posted the June dates on Wade's page as well as Hester's, and Mayor Tim Baldermann confirmed the event during Monday's Village Board meeting. The star athletes ran sports camps in New Lenox last week, but they said teaching life lessons is as important as showing kids their moves on the field and court.
As a toddler, Bears star Devin Hester's parents split and his father later died of cancer when he was 14. As an adult, the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade went through a long and public divorce and won full custody of his children this year. But as fathers, both professional athletes are committed to being the best role models they can be for their children. That attitude has rubbed off on them to help teach others' kids as well. During the two-day camps they led last week in New Lenox, Hester and Wade taught hundreds of kids the fundamentals of their sports but also the importance of hard work, teamwork and homework.
