SATURDAY, AUG. 11 DUI charges Dean Martinez, 28, of the 1600 block of Cimarron Drive, was charged separately with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while under the influence of alcohol after sheriff's police stopped him in his vehicle about 1:30 a.m. in Joliet. According to the report, he was driving the wrong way on Scott Street, which is a one-way street for southbound traffic only. He was also cited for that violation. He posted a $300 bond and was released. SATURDAY, JULY 28 Car Fire Along Metra Tracks Adrian Irvin, 23, of the 900 block of Lake Road in New Lenox, was ticketed in the aftermath of a one-car accident about 3 a.m. near the Metra Railroad tracks at Cedar and Delaney roads. According to a report from sheriff's police, Irvin's car went off the road at the railroad crossing. The vehicle skidded for about 100 feet, striking a mailbox and then ramming a large boulder, about 3x3 feet in diameter. Irvin managed to get out of the car before it caught fire, and he left the scene. Sheriff's police discovered the accident when they spotted Manhattan firefighters working to put out the totally engulfed vehicle. New Lenox police are investigating a rash of tool thefts.
A perfect Sunday morning, Aug. 5, in New Lenox turned out to be a tumultuous one for a few families living in the 300 block of Winfree Lane. Valuable tools were the target in three separate theft incidents. The complaints were all filed in about a half-hour span, beginning at 8:35 a.m. Deputy Chief Robert Pawlisz of New Lenox Police Department said two people complained that the tools were taken from their vehicles and another said someone walked into his open garage and helped himself to his tools. All total, the tools were valued at about $2,000, said Pawlisz. In the first report, police said someone stole $700 worth of tools from a car. SUNDAY, SEPT. 4 Someone stole CDs from an unlocked car in the 200 block of York Place in New Lenox. Someone stole a shelving unit that was outside the back of Nancy's Pizza in the 1800 block of East Lincoln Highway in New Lenox. Electronics equipment was taken from an unlocked car parked in the 1900 block of Heather Way Lane in New Lenox. SATURDAY, SEPT. 3 Someone stole cash, credit cards and various electronics from an unlocked car parked in the 500 block of Doxbury Lane. Donshai T. Calahan, 29, of Crest Hill, was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance after police stopped him near Maple and Prairie roads in New Lenox. The officer also discovered that Calahan had a warrant for his arrest in Indiana. …

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13 A resident on the 200 block of Hickory Street told police a fraudulent caller scammed him. The resident received a phone call from someone claiming to be a relative, saying they needed bond money wired to the Dominican Republic. After wiring the money, the resident realized it was a scam and notified police. Someone told the police that his bike was stolen outside of Pizza Hut in New Lenox at about 7 p.m. while he ate inside the restaurant. An employee at Walmart in New Lenox told police that someone took various electronic equipment from the store without paying. The value of the items is unknown.
