The Providence Catholic boys basketball team takes on Lemont in the Class 3A regional championship. The game is 7:30 p.m. tonight at Providence Catholic.
The Providence Catholic boys basketball team is the last Lincoln-Way area squad left in the playoffs, and the Celtics have a big game tonight in the regional championship. The team is just outside our top five in the regional power rankings, but a win over Lemont High School (25-2) could do just the trick. The Celtics host the regional championship tonight at 7:30. Lemont has rolled off 15 straight wins and finished with a 13-1 record in conference. The Indians defeated Providence at home earlier this season, 70-65, after the Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback fell short. 1. Brad Foster scored 33 points for the Knights and Johnny Finnin added 25 to lead Central past Eisenhower 89-77. They play Andrew High School tonight. Meanwhile, Lincoln-Way West dropped its opener to Julian 61-49.
Brad Foster scored 33 points and Johnny Finnin added 25 to lead Lincoln-Way Central past Eisenhower in the opening round of the Class 4A boys basketball playoffs. The offensive onslaught keyed an 89-77 victory Monday night in the Andrew regional. The Knights hope to score an upset tonight in the regional semifinals, going up against the home team Andrew High School, which is No. 2 in our regional power rankings. The winner will face the winner of the Marian-Lockport game. In the Class 3A playoffs, Lincoln-Way West dropped its opening game 61-49 against Julian High School. Donald Moore and Bloom remain No. 1 in the weekly Patch Power Rankings for boys basketball, while the 12-9 Celtics finish just outside the top five.
1. Bloom (19-3): Donald Moore runs the show. Henry Hicks runs the floor. The two combined for 24 points in the Blazing Trojans’ 64-44 victory over Rich East. And they’ll need to step up again as Bloom looks to settle a score with Rich South on Friday night. Moore has been selected to play in the Chicago United Hoops Classic all-star game on May 5. 2. Andrew (18-1): Jubril Adekoya is one of the area’s premier players. He also is one of the area’s most consistent players. He scored 24 points in the T-Bolts’ 73-46 victory over Bradley-Bourbonnais. Phoenix 64, Warriors 47. Lincoln-Way North's Daryle Morgan led the way with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Lincoln-Way West struggled to find its outside shot.
Facing an 11-point deficit at the half, Lincoln-Way West got the road crowd roaring with an 8-2 run Friday in a cross-district rivalry game against Lincoln-Way North. That was the closest the Warriors would get, though, as the Daryle Morgan-led Phoenix pulled away late in the game to win 64-47. The excitement of the rivalry made the game feel closer than it was, with both student sections cheering loudly. The shorter Warriors, whose tallest player is 6-foot-3, had trouble scoring inside and instead relied on its 3-point shot. But even with many open looks, West couldn't find its stroke, going 5-for-31 from behind the arc. Morgan electrified the crowd with his stellar play, including a few slam dunks and harassing defense. The four Lincoln-Way schools match up in boys and girls basketball this week, with Central versus East and North versus West. Who do you think will come out on top?
It's rivalry week for local boys and girls basketball teams, as the four Lincoln-Way schools pair off for district bragging rights. Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way East, members of the Southwest Suburban Blue Conference, will face off while Southwest Suburban Red members Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West go head-to-head. 1. Bloom Township (6-0): The Blazing Trojans put their defensive prowess on full display in Tuesday’s 49-38 win at Thornwood. Henry Hicks, a 6-foot-2 junior, is among Bloom’s defensive standouts, and he’s not too shabby on the offensive end, either. Point guard Donald Moore is a driving force. 2. Homewood-Flossmoor (5-1): The Vikings have bounced back after losing to Bloom on Thanksgiving weekend, earning victories over Joliet West and Morgan Park and Rich Central. 3. An all-star team of high school boys showed up their professional counterparts in the annual McDonald's McLegends basketball game.
Thornton's Jeremy Parker scored a team-high 21 points and Homewood-Flossmoor's Julian Lewis chipped in 17 as the high school boys downed their professional counterparts 123-122 in overtime at the annual McDonald's McLegends game. The Legends team featured household NFL names like Antwaan Randle El and Rodney Harrison testing their skills in a game of basketball. For more on the story, click here.
