The state senator, whose 40th District now encompasses portions of New Lenox and Frankfort, has decided to stay put. She dropped out of the race for Jesse Jackson's Congressional seat.
Toi Hutchinson announced Sunday that she has withdrawn from the race for the 2nd Congressional District seat, and will be backing Robin Kelly to oppose former congresswoman Debbie Halvorson. The senator for Illinois' 40th District, which now encompasses portions of New Lenox and Frankfort, was elected Nov. 6 and announced only three weeks later a decision to throw her hat in the ring to represent the 2nd Congressional District. Today, she announced that she'll stay put. "Robin is a friend, and has captured momentum in pulling our community together," said Hutchinson in a release. "I am simply unwilling to risk playing a role going forward that could result in dividing our community at time when we need unity more than ever. In the wake…

A columnist who's covered Jackson since his first days in public office suggests Obama's rise sent Jackson to his downfall.
U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.— who came into Congress bearing the heavy weight of his family name and lofty ambitions — counted Chicago's third airport as a signature issue for the better part of his time in office. And there's been no stauncher advocate for that project than Southtown columnist Phil Kadner. Construction of such an airport would bring much-needed jobs to an area plagued by chronic unemployment, and the airport itself, once realized, would serve as an economic engine for decades to come. So went the mantra. Targeted for a rural area outside the 2nd District until the latest congressional remap put the land into his district, Jackson's pursuit of the airport irritated Democrats and Republicans alike, from Chicago to Will …

The Chicago Democrat is the subject of two federal investigations and was diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder earlier this year.
Will County Republicans called for U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago) to resign Friday and quit his re-election bid amid multiple federal investigations. GOP members met outside of the Will County Courthouse on Friday and posed a united challenge to Will County Democratic candidates to withdraw their support of Jackson Jr. The congressman is reportedly under federal investigation for accusations of misusing campaign money to decorate his $1.3 million Washington D.C. home. He's on the ballot in the 2nd Congressional District, which represents parts of Chicago and suburban Cook County including Chicago Heights, Flossmoor and Homewood. In newly redrawn maps, the 2nd District extended south past Kankakee. VOTE: Should Jesse Jackson Jr…

General Assembly and congressional contenders from the south suburbs spoke to voters over the weekend at an open forum hosted by Team HOPE and the Democratic Women of the South Suburbs.

Hosted by Team HOPE and the Democratic Women of the South Suburbs in Hazel Crest, Southland residents heard several candidates for state and federal office speak Saturday. In the 2nd congressional district primary, challenger Debbie Halvorson questioned U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s ability to get things done. Jackson, in turn, touted his efforts on behalf of the third airport project. Patch towns in this district include Homewood, Flossmoor, Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields. In the primary for 19th State Senate District, Tinley Park Village trustee …

Check out www.voteAnthonyWWilliams.com Compare, then decide. If Debbie was such a tireless worker and cared about our district why hasn't she spoken out on any of the issues affecting us from the time she lost the seat? This goes for the rest of the contenders. I support Anthony W. Williams who does work tirelessly unlike those currently in office, the newly elected and others running. When have …   more ›
