Bomb Squad Says Odd Parcel No Threat

The Will County Sheriff's Office was notified of a suspicious package at U.S. 30 and Spencer Road just before 9:30 a.m. today, Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said.

A suspicious package containing a bomb-like item found along U.S. 30 this morning was investigated by the Cook County Bomb Squad and determined to be box of used commercial smoke-effects devices. The Will County Sheriff's Office learned about the package, which was spotted in an area near U.S. 30 and Spencer Road, at about 9:25 a.m. and called in the bomb squad to determine what it was, Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said. "Units responded and located a package that upon initial review appeared to have some type of explosive device inside," Kaupas said. The department set up a "safe perimeter" and no one had to be evacuated, he said. The location is in an unincorporated area of Will County between Joliet and New Lenox. "It turned out to be a …

Video and Reports Turned Over in Frankfort Doc's Sex Crime Case

Frankfort pediatrician Kishor Jain was in Will County court for his criminal sex case.

The prosecutor trying a Frankfort pediatrician charged with groping five women in his Colorado Avenue office said he has handed over evidence in the case. "I tendered the police reports and video, but I need a little more time," special prosecutor Dave Neal told Judge Robert Livas during a Wednesday morning hearing at the Will County Courthouse. Neal, was appointed to the criminal case against Dr. Kishor Jain, due to a conflict with a staffer in the state's attorney's office, said he had additional evidence to provide. Jain, 59, faces 10 counts of felony criminal sexual abuse, five counts of misdemeanor battery, and a single count of criminal sexual assault for allegedly groping five women while working at the Hedges Clinic. Not worried about people that commit violent crimes being published at all, I want them to be punished to the full degree. I just find it a little disturbing to see younger people put up on the patch for petty crimes. Also don't agree with first time offenders having their names published for dui prior to being convicted. Anybody that states that they have never driven while being over .08 is …   more ›

SUNDAY, MAY 19 Police investigated a report of criminal damage at about 2:05 p.m. The victim said someone broke the back window of his vehicle. The incident remains under investigation. SATURDAY, MAY 18 Police were called to Circle K, located in the 400 block of Nelson Road, for a report of a stolen garbage can, according to a report. It was in the front of the store before it went missing. FRIDAY, MAY 17 A burglary broke a window of a home in the 1000 block of East Have Avenue and stolen jewelry, according to a report. 13-year-old Frankfort Girl Missing: Police Dog Lost Scent (UPDATE)

A 13-year-old Frankfort girl has gone missing.

UPDATE: 10:55 a.m. Monday Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan reported that the missing girl has been found. She is safe and sound. ... Original Story: Frankfort Police are attempting to find a missing 13-year-old girl who left home sometime before 8 a.m. today. While neither the girl's name nor a photo has been released, she is described as being 5-foot-4-inches tall and weighing 95 pounds.  She has dark brown hair. There was no clothing description available. Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said the girl's parents said she apparently took along a small amount of money, packed some clothes in a black backpack and left on a blue mountain bike. Why call people names? I think we are all well aware she more than likely took off on her own. That does not mean she isn't in danger. Someone could have picked her up or worse. A 13 year old making a break for it doesn't know how to make good decisions obviously. That alone puts them in danger.   more ›

Joliet Man Allegedly Breaks into Hospital Coffee Shop: Blotter

New Lenox police reports, May 12-16.

THURSDAY, MAY 16 Andrew Chambers, 19, of the 700 block of Brockwood, New Lenox, was charged with aggravated assault, according to a report. An officer was called at about 4:03 p.m. to the area of Bently and Lake for a report of an assault. Chambers is accused of making a threat while displaying a knife. WEDNESDAY, MAY 15 About $70 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart, located in the 500 block of East Route 30, according to a report. The theft happened at about 6:10 p.m. Keith Richards, 41, of the 900 block of Summit, Joliet, was charged with burglary, according to a report. Police were called at about 4:05 a.m. to Silver Cross Hospital in reference to a burglary. Richards is accused of forcing open the doors to the coffee shop. …

I-80 Crash Started with Joliet Purse-Snatching, Auto Theft, Police Say

Matthew Boban was arrested on several charges stemming from the Saturday crime spree, including driving under the influence of drugs, Illinois State Police said.

A Joliet man who stole a woman's purse and then fled in a stolen car, only to crash into a semi on Interstate 80, was arrested Saturday on a slew of charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, Illinois State Police said. Matthew J. Boban, 32, of 521 Mack, was charged after being treated at Silver Cross Medical Center in New Lenox for injuries suffered during the crash. The incident began shortly after noon Saturday when Boban allegedly snagged a woman's purse while in the parking lot of a Joliet Jewel-Osco store at 1401 W. Jefferson St. and then fled in a car taken from a friend, state police said. There was a second person in the car, but it's not known if it was the car's owner. The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending the DUI alcohol limit be lowered to 0.05 ... not that it would do any good for the people on this week's list of Southland DUIs.

  NEW LENOX May 9: Alejandro Aguillon, 22, of the 100 block of Branchaw Boulevard, New Lenox, was charged with driving under the influence, making an improper turn and speeding, according to a report. Police stopped Aguillon at about 2:13 a.m. near the intersection of Cedar Road and Terry Ellen Lane. Aguillon was allegedly found under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and released after posting bond. ORLAND PARK April 24: Brian J. Stolen Car Crashes into Semi on I-80

Two people were taken to Silver Cross Hospital after a crash west of South La Grange Road in Mokena at about 12:25 p.m. State police say the car was stolen from Joliet.

Police are investigating a crash involving a car stolen from Joliet and a semi-truck on Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon. Two people from the car were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, according to Illinois State Police. At least one person in the car was male. Police did not have details about the identity of either person early Saturday afternoon. For an unknown reason, the stolen car crashed into the back of the semi at about 12:25 p.m., about one-half mile west of South La Grange Road on I-80, police said. The driver of the semi was not hurt. Check back with Patch as more details become available.

May 8: Harold and Kumar would be proud of this trip to White Castle. Joseph Bermejo, 27, of the 9200 block of Brandon Avenue, Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana, according to an Evergreen Park report. Police saw a car in the rear parking lot of White Castle, 2555 W. 95th St., and reported smelling an odor of marijuana coming from it. When the car tried to leave, a cigar was tossed out of the window. About 0.7 gram of a substance that tested positive for marijuana was found.
