It's time don cap-n-gown. Close to 1,650 seniors will be receiving their diplomas soon from Lincoln-Way High School District 210. School officials remind families and friends to arrive early and to have their passes for parking and entrance at the ready. Last year, Lincoln-Way Central's graduates numbered close to 450, 500 at Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North 400 and Lincoln-Way West 290. Silver Cross Hospital has hired 400 in less than two years.
The largest job provider in the Lincoln-Way communities in the past 16 months has been New Lenox-based Silver Cross Hospital. At a recent meeting of the New Lenox Village Board, it was reported that 400 new hires have been brought on to work on the campus. The Lincoln-Way Board of Education voted to hire teachers and reported on tax disbursements.
The Lincoln-Way High School Board of Education hired nine new teachers and an aquatics assistant supervisor for LW-North High School at the regular meeting May 23 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 Gougar Road. Deputy Supt. Thomas Eddy selected new teaching staff to cover a variety of subject areas. New Hires: The district's new aquatics assistant supervisor is Lauren Hurley. Financial updates Supt. Lawrence Wyllie told board members that the district received $2.2 million in tax disbursements, bringing the total fund balance to $4.2 million. 70 mph on rural interstates not a done deal yet, as bill has its opponents.
By Steven Jack A bill to increase the maximum speed limit in Illinois could hit Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk for signature soon. Whether Quinn will sign it remains to be seen. The bill, introduced by Republican State. Sen. Jim Oberweis, would raise the speed limit on rural Illinois highways to 70 mph. The bill, which has passed both chambers of the state legislature, has been met with opposition due to safety concerns by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, according to the Chicago Tribune. “The progression of this legislation is a good example of what can be accomplished when lawmakers work together in a bipartisan manner for the good of our state,” Oberweis said. “It …
The Will County Sheriff's Office was notified of a suspicious package at U.S. 30 and Spencer Road just before 9:30 a.m. today, Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said.
A suspicious package containing a bomb-like item found along U.S. 30 this morning was investigated by the Cook County Bomb Squad and determined to be box of used commercial smoke-effects devices. The Will County Sheriff's Office learned about the package, which was spotted in an area near U.S. 30 and Spencer Road, at about 9:25 a.m. and called in the bomb squad to determine what it was, Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said. "Units responded and located a package that upon initial review appeared to have some type of explosive device inside," Kaupas said. The department set up a "safe perimeter" and no one had to be evacuated, he said. The location is in an unincorporated area of Will County between Joliet and New Lenox. "It turned out to be a …
