Canadian National Railroad Quiet Zone

Canadian National Railroad Quiet Zone

On November 1, 2012 a quiet zone was established along the Canadian National Railroad thru New Lenox. This includes the locations where the CN railroad crosses, Gougar Road, Nelson Road, Cedar Road, Spencer Road and Schoolhouse Road.

This means that during normal operations the train engineers do not need to blow their horns.  However, if the engineer feels there is an unsafe condition they can still blow the horns. Therefore there may be times when train horns will be blown.

If a train horn is heard we need as much information as possible, but at a minimum we need the following:

Find out what's happening in New Lenoxwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

1.  When did they hear the horn? Date and time of day.

2.  What direction was the train traveling?

3.  Where did they hear the train?

Any additional information would be helpful.  Please contact the Engineering Department at 815-462-6450 with this information.

We will track this information and forward it to the Federal Rail Authority who enforces the quiet zone.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
