Secret Acts

15They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, to which their own conscience also bears witness; and their conflicting thoughts will accuse or perhaps excuse them 16on the day when, according to my gospel, God, through Jesus Christ, will judge the secret thoughts of all. ~ Romans 2:15-16

We have been the recipients of a secret act twice in the past 48 hours.  This act was a wonderful surprise, as it was the gift of secretly plowing our driveway while we were gone.  Each time, my husband had full intentions of getting out the snow blower as soon as we got home, only to be greeted with the job already done!  It allowed him more relaxation time - something he has very little of during this time of year.

People throughout the ages have often done things in secret.  Some were for good, but others were not.  Things done in secret are never hidden from God's eyes.  These "secret acts" show what is really in the hearts of those doing them.  Often, what people do in public is to give an impression of how people want to be perceived, when in reality, what they do in secret is who they really are as a person.  This "secret" identity will be judged one day - either condemning the person or redeeming them in the eyes of God.  Nothing done - publicly or in secret - is missed by God and all will be judged for all they do.

What do you do for others to see?  What do you do secretly that you don't want others to know about?  Remember, everything you do - known or unknown to others - will determine your eternal reward someday.  Act wisely in all you do at all times.

Lord,

Thank You for always seeing us for who we really are.  Knowing this, we must always remember that the eternal judgment awaits us all and that we must always seek to do what is right in Your eyes - both in public and in secret.  Amen.
