OLD CAMPGROUND FESTIVAL June 22

NEW LENOX – The 38th annual Old Campground Festival will take place on Saturday, June 22 on the wooded grounds of the United Methodist Church, located just off U.S. Route 30, one mile east of Interstate 80 (Exit 137) in New Lenox, Illinois.  This year’s chairman, Jim Speicher announces numerous craft spaces are sold for the popular festival of arts and crafts.  Hours are from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Various art and craft items sold throughout the day include candles, pictures on wood, canes, planters, gates, jewelry, polished pendants, leather goods, handmade cards, purses, necklaces, florals, soy candles, dog treats, pottery, bean bags and boards, birdhouses, chairs, frames, windsocks, flags, pole people, placemats and runners, tye dyes, afghans, sports plaques baskets, wallets, stained glass, shawls and ponchos, hair accessories, American girl clothes, ceramics, religious books, diaper and sock creations, pet items, glass totems, Native American art and much more.

The day long festivities have been arranged by Mike Weirman.  A pastoral prayer to open the festival will be given at 10:00 A.M. by the church pastor, followed by a duet and solo by Christian Spalla and Micha Hagen.  Kids & Company singers will take the stage  at 10:30 A.M. with songs from their spring musical.

The 11:00 A.M. performance will be the 30 member troupe of “Cloggin Craze” dancers from Peace Lutheran Church of New Lenox.  New to this year’s festival will be “Juggling Dave” juggling and magic show from 11:45 to 12:30 P.M.

The afternoon lineup begins at 12:30 with the delightful voice of Julia Rhodes accompanied by Jay Ross Green, guitarist.  The Weber Irish Dancers, directed by Madeline Weber will entertain from 1:00 to 1:30 P.M., followed by T.S.Q, saxophone quartet under the leadership of Ray Forlena from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M.  Closing the daylong festivities will be the Haven Band from the United Methodist Church of New Lenox led by Rose Hatalla.

 Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for all of the entertainment.

Other daytime attractions include games for small children with prizes and face painting until 2:00 P.M.  Refreshments sold throughout the day by the church include barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, Polish sausage, brownies, chips, coffee, lemonade, pop and bottled water.  Snow cones and kettle corn will also be sold.  An information booth will be centrally located for programs, church information, lost children and minor first aid.

 Admission and parking on the grounds for the all day festival are free.  Handicapped parking is available.  Additional free parking will be available at the Lions Community Center on West Manor Drive where visitors may park and ride the air-conditioned shuttle to the festival.  Free shuttle will run from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

The rain date for the 2013 Old Campground Festival will be Sunday, June 23 from noon to 5:00 P.M.  For further information call 815-485-8271, Ext. 52.  The public is cordially invited and welcome!
