Let the Celebration Begin!

They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness,
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. ~ Psalm 145.7

The 4th of July did not become a federal holiday until 1941.  This day of remembering and celebrating our patriotism is marked by parades, fireworks, picnics, carnivals, etc.  We always look forward to holidays like these to take a day off of work and just have fun and enjoy the company of friends and family.  Patriotic songs proclaim the goodness of God in seeing us through to our freedom as a new nation.  With the 4th of July falling in the middle of the week, many communities will continue this annual celebration throughout the coming weekend.

We, as Christians, need to remember that every day is a day to celebrate the goodness and grace of God.  He continually provides for our every need, therefore, there is not really one “set” day to celebrate His greatness.  Yes, we tend to set aside one day a week to gather with our church family to worship Him, but every day is a good day to celebrate God’s loving kindness to us and others.  When we wake up in the morning, we can celebrate in a prayer of thanksgiving for yet another day to live according to His will.  When we go about our business throughout the day, we can lift up praises for the many opportunities and gifts He provides for us.  When we lay our heads down at night, we can again thank Him for blessing us throughout our day.  Every day has something to be thankful for and to celebrate.  What do you see in your life today to celebrate with God?

Prayer

Lord,

Thank you for yet another beautiful day to live our lives according to Your will.  Help us to lift praises up to You throughout the day, allowing You to celebrate with us the lives You have given us to live.  Let our celebratory lives lift others’ hearts to celebrate with You all the days of their lives as well.  Amen.
