United Methodist Church of New Lenox Pastor Receives 2012 Harry Denman Award

The Harry Denman Evangelism Award is presented annually to a United Methodist lay and clergy person in each Annual Conference for outstanding work in Christian Evangelism.

Rev. Dr. Jay D. Carr received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award during the October 20 Northern Illinois Conference School of Evangelism held at Cornerstone UMC in Elgin, IL.

Jay Carr is the Senior Pastor of the United Methodist Church of New Lenox and has served as a pastor in the Northern Illinois Conference for 28 years. He has served as an evangelist and group leader for the parachurch organization Outreach for Christ before becoming an ordained minister.  Carr has demonstrated a deep commitment to personal and social holiness.  He has traveled with mission teams to Russia, India, Senegal, Mexico and throughout the United States.  He served at the UMC in Roscoe, IL and began the Hilltop Ministry Center in Machesney Park, IL before being appointed to the United Methodist Church of New Lenox in 2010.  Carr has chaired the NIC Evangelism from 2004-2012 and led in the establishiment of the NIC School of Evangelism seven years ago.

In the past 10 years, Carr has brought more than 400 persons into the membership of the United Methodist Church - 40% of them by profession of faith.  In 2011 alone, he brought in 20 persons by profession of faith. On Easter of 2012, Carr baptized 9 adults during a Sunrise Service held during an outdoor worship service on the wooded grounds of the UMC of New Lenox.  (Facts taken from NIC e-news).
