Don't Worry About the Tough Times

Devotion on letting go of your worries and letting God take control.

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!  ~ Luke 12.28

Looking out at the beautiful green of spring this morning, one can get lost in the newness of the season:  the leaves budding overhead on the swaying branches, the daffodils, tulips and crocuses that have errupted from the ground and brighten the earth with their many colors, the grass that will soon need mowing.  Going outside, we feel the warmth of the sun on our faces as the cool morning breeze blows gently across our skin.  Spring has finally come!  We welcome spring with excitement as all around us, things become new.  God has once again brought life to the earth from the dead of the former winter.

Worry begins to set back in as we take our focus off of our surroundings of spring and return to the reality of life.  We still can't find a job - or if we have one, perhaps there is worry as to how long we will still be employed.  We worry about paying the bills, feeding our families, how to find the proper medical care for those we love that are ill.  But why do we worry so much?  Do we really have that much control over our lives that we can solve all of life's many problems?

True, we do have some responsibilities in our work and how we pay for what we need, but we need to focus on God, who provides everything we need when we need it most.  He will never leave or forsake us.  He cares for the grass, trees, flowers - bringing them what they need to return for another springtime from the dead of winter.  So, to, God will give you what you need to "stay above water" when the flood of worries try to drown you in despair.  Call to God and ask for His help and guidance.  He will help you, even as you go about trying to help yourself - by giving you the strength, the skills, the means by which to accomplish that which you need to accomplish.  Lean on Him more often and worry less.  Enjoy what He is providing you - both for your needs and for your visual enjoyment in His glorious nature around you.

Thank you, Lord, for taking care of my every need, even when I don’t realize You are helping me.  Help me to always look to You for everything so that I need not worry and enjoy the life You have given me more fully.  Amen.
