WILL COUNTY TO PREPARE NEW EMERGENCY PLANNING AND RESPONSE TOOLS FOR HAZAROUS MATERIAL PIPELINES RUNNING THROUGH NEW LENOX

Pipline Safety to be Improved in New Lenox.

On October 30th Harold Damron, Will County's Emergency Planning Coordinator announced at the Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting that Will County has received a $50,000 grant from the USDOT for Emergency Hazardous Material Pipeline Planning.  The grant will allow the County to hire a consultant to prepare software which will identify all hazarous material pipelines passing through New Lenox and the remainder of the County.  The software will be available to the 911 Emergency Telephone System Dispatch Centers such as Lincolnway 911 Communication Center and the New Lenox Fire Department to aid in the response to a reported leak and aid in identifing the hazardous material in the pipeline.

The software programs will show the location of the hazardous material pipelines in a geographic information system formate which shows the location of schools, roads, railways, residences and commercial areas.  The software programs will also be made available to the Will County Land Use Department for planning purposes when considering the platting of future subdivisions and other development.
