Ash Borer Destroying Trees: What to do if You Live in the County

The Will County Highway department will also remove infected trees on public right-of-way of County Roads.

The Will County Highway department will also remove infected trees on public right-of-way of County Roads. The Township Highway Commissioner is responsible for removal of infected trees along Township Roads and Streets. 

The public road right-of-way is generally a width of 66 feet, however it varies.  If you measure 33 feet from the center line of the road onto your lot it will give you an indication if the tree is on public right-of-way.  You can contact the County Highway Department if you live on a County road such as Gougar or Laraway to have them determine if the tree is on the road right-of-way.

You can contact the for trees along Township Roads.  The State Department of Transportation is responsible for trees along the State Highways they maintain. I live in the Village of New Lenox and the Village removed three green ash trees along the right-of-way but I had an additional three green ash trees off of the public right-of-way which I had to pay to have removed.
