Taking Your Health In A Whole New Direction

Start the New Year off right. Take control of your life and your health!

Well it's that time of year again. It's the time we all tend to look back at our lives and make some promises to ourselves to change things we are not happy with and do more of the things we know we should be doing. Unfortunately , more than 80% of New Years resolutions are broken by March 1st. So what do we do to keep on track and make those changes we need to make so we can be around to watch our kids grow to adulthood?

First, I think we need to decide to concentrate on the things we can control and worry less about the things we can't. Excessive stress in our lives can have serious negative affects on our health. Some stress is unavoidable, but many things we allow to stress us out when we dont need to. Ladies, here is a tip for you. It was pointed out to me several years ago that both men and women make " to do " lists, but men limit theirs to 3 items while women usually have many more things on their lists. When the men finish their items they take it easy and feel like they have accomplished something while women never seem to be able to get to the end of their list and it becomes a constant source of stress for them.

I know it is easier said than done as women historically have many more items to put on their list , but you must try to limit your list to the really important things. We are all in the same boat so if your house isn't immaculate all the time people will just have to understand (or not, maybe time for some new friends! ).

Another area where we have control is our and our families health. I can't think of a more important function as a parent and spouse than seeing that my family is equiped with a strong immune system to fight off the illnesses we encounter every day. One of the health concerns that have made headlines lately is the overweight issues many people are encountering. It's hard to turn on your TV or computer now without seeing some stastic about this problem in our country which is quickly becoming a global issue. It has been said that this generation may be the first one to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents! We need to address this issue NOW and their is no better way to show our kids we mean business than to lead by example. Its been said that 2 out of 3 people have some weight issue. Have you been on the yo-yo diet train, lose a few pounds, and have it all come back later, and maybe even more?

Many, including myself, have had this happen. So what do we do? Are the weight loss drugs worth the risk or will we end up with another Fen-Fen fiasco that threatens peoples lives? It's never seemed like a good idea to me to ingest something that may help me lose weight or might just kill me. Is there a better way ?
